A very green day　緑にあふれた日

Hello everyone,

I hope you had a happy Saint Patrick’s Day yesterday and enjoyed the warm weather that came with it. Spring has really arrived now and it’s nice to have some warm weather at last. There were parades all over the World yesterday to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. There have been parades held around Japan since 1992. They are held at the weekend because some of the streets have to be closed to traffic. The Tokyo parade took place last Sunday in Harajuku and gave people a chance to see and hear traditional Irish music and dancing. There were also “Irish wolfhounds” on display. These dogs originally come from Ireland and there are now special breeders for them in Japan. They are huge, but don’t be scared, they’re very friendly. If you missed the parade in Tokyo, don’t worry, you can still catch the next one in Chiba this Saturday.
I’d like to thank our students here at Hario for wearing green yesterday. We had fantastic decorations around the school too, I really felt like I was back home at times. I asked one of my students what day it was, and she replied “It’s green day”. That was a good guess I think! It’s nice to have your country celebrated wherever you are in the world.

みなさんこんにちは。
昨日は聖パトリックの祝日でした。また暖かい気候で良い一日を過ごされたことと思います。
すでに春になったような、暖かい日は嬉しいです。

昨日は聖パトリックの祝日のお祝いで世界中でパレードが行われたようです。1992年から日本でもパレードが行われています。パレードを行うためには通りを閉鎖しなければならないので、日本では週末に行われました。東京のパレードは先週の日曜日に行われ、原宿ではアイルランドの伝統的な音楽や踊りをみることができたようです。また「アイリッシュウルフハウンド」の映像も見ました。アイルランドで生まれた犬の種類で、日本にもブリーダーがいます。とても大きいですが、こわくなく、とてもフレンドリーな犬です。
東京でパレードが開催されていたことをしらなかった方々、まだ大丈夫です！今週土曜日、千葉でもパレードが行われるようです。
昨日ハリオに緑を身に着けて来てくれた生徒さんたち、ありがとうございました。教室の装飾も緑にあふれ、まるで故郷に帰ったような気分になりました。昨日生徒の一人に「今日は何の日？」と尋ねたら、「緑の日！」という答えが返ってきました。良い推測です。
世界中のどこにいようと、自分の国の祝日をお祝いできるのは、うれしいことです。
