Typhoon season　台風の季節

Hello everyone,

Last Sunday a massive typhoon swept through Japan, and Fuji was right in the eye of the storm. Luckily there were no injuries, but a landslide left roads and railroads closed between Fuji and Shizuoka. It caused massive traffic disruptions in the area, and I could see huge tailbacks on the roads in Fuji on Monday night. Things are getting back to normal on the roads now and the Tomei highway is open again. However, The train line is still closed as it was covered by a huge landslide, and it could be a while before it opens again. While Ireland has more wind and rain than Japan, there are rarely ever typhoons there. Ireland can have strong winds, but it rarely comes with such heavy rain, like we saw on Sunday. So Ireland`s wind and rain is more frequent, but less severe. I`m impressed with Fuji city`s drainage system, I was expecting a flood after all that rain. There have been massive floods in Ireland after less rain that that! Unfortunately it looks like there could be another typhoon on the way, so stay safe.

みなさんこんにちは、

先週の日曜日、大きな台風が日本を横断しました。富士市のすぐ横を台風の目が通っていきましたね。幸い、けが人はでなかったようですが、富士市と静岡市の間の道路と線路に土砂が流れてしまいました。大きな交通の不便を引き起こしているようで、私も月曜の夜にとても長い渋滞がおきているのを見ました。一般道路も東名も今は通ることができるようになりましたが、未だ線路は土砂に埋まっており、復旧にはまだ時間がかかるようです。

アイルランドでは、風や雨は日本よりも頻繁にありますが、台風が来ることはあまりないです。強風の日もありますが、今回のような激しい雨と同時に起こることはあまりありません。アイルランドでの風、雨は頻繁ですが、深刻なものではないということです。私はこのような激しい雨の後には洪水が起こるだろうと予想していたのですが、富士市の水はけのよさに感心しましたアイルランドでは、より少ない雨でも洪水が起きてしまいます。
