いかがお過ごしですか？大きな台風が接近しているため、本日５：３０以降のクラスは休講にさせて頂きます。悪天候、十分お気を付けください。

The World Cup is nearing the end. Germany beat Brazil 7-1 in the most surprising sports match I’ve ever seen. I’m glad I got up early at 5am to see it. In the prediction game here at Hario, only one student chose Germany to win the semi-finals. Almost everyone picked Brazil. This has changed the leaderboard. In Japanese people often say 万が一、まんがいち、(10000 to 1) when they talk about unlikely events. In English people often say ‘a million to one’ ‘1,000,000 to 1’ in the same way. The result of the Brazil – Germany game was a million to one event. Have you ever witnessed any other million to one events?

ワールドカップも終わりに近づいています。ドイツがブラジルを７－１で倒しました。この試合は、私が今まで見た中で一番びっくりした試合でした。朝５時に起きて見て良かったと思います。HARIO のワールドカップ結果予想ゲームでは、ただ一人の生徒さんがドイツが準決勝に勝つだろうと予想していました。ほとんど全員がブラジルが勝つと思っていたのですここでHARIOロビーにある得点表の順位が大きく変わりました。ありそうにない事柄について話すとき、日本人はよく「万が一」という言葉をつかいます。イギリス人は同じ場合に”million to one”(直訳：百万が一)と言います。ブラジル・ドイツ戦の結果は”million to one”の結果でした。あなたは今までに”million to one”「予想できない」場面に居合わせたことはありますか？
