I see that Japan had a good week in the Winter Olympics, Yuzuru Hanyu won a gold medal in the men`s figure skating, let`s hope there`s more to come.

Last weekend I went on a short break to Atami. I had never been before but I heard it was popular in the past as a honeymoon destination. Now, however, it`s hot springs attract most of the tourists. We stayed in a place called a “pension”. I had never heard this word before but apparently it`s what we would call a “bed and breakfast” in Ireland. It`s a bit cheaper than a hotel, and dinner and breakfast are included in the price. It also has a more homely feel than a hotel. It`s a smaller family run place and the one we stayed at had about ten cats living there too, so just be sure you`re not allergic before you go! They had a fantastic outdoor hot spring bath. It was a bit too hot for me, but it was relaxing once I got used to the burning sensation. The view from the bath was beautiful, Atami has a rugged mountainous terrain and a nice sea view. Dinner was mostly nice, local sashimi, but I wasn`t too keen on the big sea snail they served. I`ve tried the French dish of escargot before, but they are tiny compared to the sea snail, so I`m not quite ready to try one yet.

Best of luck to Japan in the women`s figure skating this week, bring home another gold!

みなさん、こんにちは。

今週は、ソチオリンピックで羽生ゆずる選手が金メダルをとって日本は大いに沸いていますね。

残り後半のオリンピックでの日本選手にさらに期待します。

先週の週末は、熱海に小旅行へ行ってきました。初めての熱海でした。

熱海は昔は、ハネムーンの旅行先で人気の場所だったと聞きました。

今は、温泉で有名な場所のようで、私たちは、「ペンション」に滞在しました。

私は「ペンション」という言葉を今までに聞いたことがありません。アイルランドでは、

「ベッド＆ブレックファスト」（ベッドと朝食）と呼びます。ホテルより少し安めで、夕食と朝食代も

代金に含まれていました。

そしてホテルよりも、アットホームな雰囲気で、家族経営をしていて、１０匹ほどの猫をかっていました。

もし猫アレルギーがある方は予約する前にチェックしたほうがいいですね。

そこには素晴らしい露天風呂がありました。私にはちょっと熱すぎましたが、慣れてくるととても

気持ちがよかったです。露天風呂からの、ごつごつした山々と美しい海のながめも最高でした。

私は夕食が気に入りました。新鮮な地魚が美味しかったです。

その中に「さざえ」がありました。私は今までに、見たことも食べたことがありませんでした。フランス料理にでるエスカルゴは前に食べたことがありましたが、それよりも大きくて、見た目も気持ち悪くて・・・今回は食べることができませんでした。

 

今週は、女子フィギュアスケートですね。日本がまた金メダルをとりますように！
