I hope you`re keeping warm with all the cold weather we`ve been having lately. The temperature has dropped to 0 degrees today, and there was some brief snow earlier. Right now Japan is even colder than Ireland. Despite Ireland being much further north than Japan, there is something called the “Gulf stream” that keeps the weather fairly mild all year round. This refers to the flow of the ocean currents from the Caribbean gulf, which flow directly to Ireland. This means that while our summer is relatively cool (We get up to about 25 degrees during the day in July), our winter doesn`t get extremely cold. The average daytime temperature in Ireland is 7 degrees in January. However it stays cold for much longer in Ireland, you will still need a jacket in April. Another downside is that it`s very dark and wet in Ireland in Winter. The biggest difference I noticed was that Japan has bright, sunny and dry weather in winter, which puts me in a better mood. In Ireland it gets bright at 9am and dark again at 4pm throughout December and January. This can feel like an eternal darkness sometimes and can be rather depressing. I much prefer the brighter days here in Japan. And while it`s early in the year now, I`m already looking forward to Spring. Bring on the warm weather!

 

 

みなさん、こんにちは。

皆さん、暖かくお過ごしですか。最近は寒いですね。

今日は０度まで下がりました。

そしてさっきまで、ちいさな雪がふっていました。

 

今の日本は、アイルランドより寒いです。アイルランドがあんなにも北に位置しているのにです。

アイルランドには、「メキシコ湾流」とよばれるものがあり、これが１年を通して暖かくしてくれます。

これは、メキシコ湾からくる暖流で、アイルランドに流れ着きます。

このメキシコ湾流のおかげで、夏は比較的涼しく、冬は寒すぎない気候になります。

１月の日中の気温は７度ぐらいです。でもこのような気候が４月まで続きます。

４月でもまだジャケットがいります。

 

そしてまた、アイルランドの冬はとても暗く、じめじめしています。

日本にきて気づいたアイルランドとの冬の違いは、日本は、天気が多く、明るく、また乾燥していることです。

私は日本の冬の方がすきです。

アイルランドの１２月と１月は、午前９時ごろに明るくなり、４時には日が落ちます。

なんだか、暗闇にいるようで、ストレスがたまります。

 

まだ今年が始まったばかりですが、春がくるのが待ち遠しいです。
