Christmas is here at Hario English School! We`ve got some decorations up to get people into the Christmas spirit. There`s nice tree, a snowman, xmas lights, and tinsel everywhere. It adds warmth to the cold weather when I see xmas decor brightening up the room. I was looking　at　how　Christmas　is　celebrated　in　Japan　and　I　realized　there　are　some　differences　between here and the Irish way of doing things. In Ireland Christmas cake is eaten on Christmas day, and not Christmas Eve as it is here. Turkey and ham is the traditional choice for dinner in Ireland, rather than chicken here. I heard that KFC gets very busy on Christmas day in Japan. That’s another big difference, most businesses are open. In Ireland it`s a national holiday and is seen as a time to be spent with your family, so it would be hard to find any store that’s open on Christmas day. In Ireland gifts are generally given to family and friends, there’s also a big focus on gifts for children. Santa Claus is said to visit the house of every child on Christmas Eve and leave presents under the tree. I have heard that Japan is more geared towards couples exchanging gifts. It seems like more of a romantic holiday here. Those differences aside I still get the same festive feeling on both sides of the world. Merry Christmas!

みなさん、こんにちは。

HARIOイングリッシュスクール にクリスマスがやってきました。

学校内は、クリスマスのデコレーションでいっぱいで、生徒のみなさんはクリスマスを感じることができます。クリスマスツリー、雪だるま、クリスマスライト、カラーモールで飾られています。

クリスマスの飾りつけのある部屋をみると、こんな寒い中でも暖かくなります。

私は日本でクリスマスがどのように祝われるのかを見ていますが、少しアイルランドのやり方とは違うことがあります。

アイルランドでは、クリスマスの日にケーキを食べますが、日本ではクリスマスイブに食べます。

アイルランドのクリスマスディナーは、七面鳥やハムですが、日本ではチキンです。

日本ではケンタッキーフライドチキンがクリスマスの日にすごく混むとききました。

これも大きな違いです。店がやっているのですから。

アイルランドでは、クリスマスは祝日で、家族と過ごす日です。ですから、皆働かないので、あいている店を見つけるのは難しいことです。

またクリスマスプレゼントは、主に家族や友人にあげます。もちろん子供達が主役になります。

クリスマスイブにサンタクロースが、子供達一人一人の家を訪れ、ツリーの下にプレゼンをとおいて帰ると言われています。日本では、恋人同士がプレゼントを交換すると聞きました。

そうすると、クリスマスがロマンティックな日に見えてしまいます。

こういう違いはありますが、私はクリスマスを日本でも感じています。
