After last week’s blog about world book day, this week I’m going to talk about one of the most beloved British characters, Paddington Bear. Recently I have been reading my son the adventures of Paddington at bedtime, while he is very familiar with Paddington through the recent movies “Paddington” and “Paddington 2” it has been nice to read the stories to him and noting the differences between the books and films.

先週の「世界本の日」に続いて、今週はイギリスで最も人気のあるキャラクターの一人でもある「くまのパディントン」についてご紹介致します。

最近私の息子を寝かしつける際に、パディントンの冒険の読み聞かせをしています。最近はパディントンの映画をよく観ていたので、既に内容をとっても気にっている様子で本と映画のちょっとした違いなんかを楽しんでくれています

Paddington first appeared in 1958 in the book “A Bear Called Paddington” written by Michael Bond. The bear from darkest Peru is known for his duffle coat, hat, battered old suitcase, and love of Marmalade. He often causes mishaps on his adventures as he learns about living in London with the Brown Family who finds the bear alone and hungry at Paddington station, hence his name and decides to take him in as part of their family. Paddington is always polite and though he can get into trouble he is always trying to do the right thing. This is why the character has become so loved in Britain and internationally.

パディントンは1958年に、マイケルボンド作「くまのパディントン」という本に登場したくまの主人公です🐻

暗黒の地ペルーから送られてきたくまで、ダッフルコートに帽子、古いスーツケースを身に付けており、マーマレードが大好物だと描かれています。

彼はパディントン駅でお腹がすいて一人で困っているところを優しいブラウン夫妻に拾われてから、色々なことを学びながらロンドンで暮らしてきました。

パディントンはいつもとっても丁寧に立ち振る舞うくまなのですが、トラブルに出くわす事が多いのも物語が面白い理由の一つです。

そしてそんな時でも、冷静に正しい判断をしながら問題を解決していきます。

そういう性格の持ち主として描かれているのもあって、イギリスのみならず世界中で愛されるキャラクターになりました
