Magic words to get candy

Hello everyone,

Halloween week is just around the corner! From Monday we will have a full week of spooky and fun Halloween parties for our elementary school students. There will be fun games to play and a craft to make too. Don’t forget to wear a costume and bring a jar for the craft. If you wear a costume you will have the chance to say “Trick or treat!” If you say that phrase on Halloween, people must give you a “treat” of candy, or else they will suffer from a scary “trick”. While Halloween originated in Ireland hundreds of years ago, the phrase “trick or treat” actually began in Canada, about 100 years ago. It then spread across the USA, and on to the rest of the world. My Dad told me that when he went from house to house in a costume when he was young, they would say “Help the Halloween party!” So, it seems that the phrase “trick or treat” came into Ireland about 50 or 60 years ago. When I was young, the phrase had changed to “trick or treat” and I made sure to go to every house on my street. Come to the party and see if the magic words work here at Hario. Surprise us with a cool costume, whether it’s scary, funny, weird or crazy. Dress to impress next week and join our Halloween party!

ハロウィンウィークがもうすぐやってきます！

月曜日から、小学生向けの楽しくてちょっと怖いハロウィンパーティーを1週間開催します。楽しいゲームやクラフトも用意していますよ。仮装をして、クラフト用の瓶を忘れずに持ってきてくださいね。

仮装していると、「トリック・オア・トリート！」と言うチャンスがありますよ！

ハロウィン当日にこの言葉を言うと、お菓子（トリート）をもらえるか、怖いイタズラ（トリック）をされるかのどちらかになります。ハロウィンは何百年も前にアイルランドで始まりましたが、「トリック・オア・トリート」というフレーズは約100年前にカナダで生まれました。その後、アメリカ全土に広まり、世界中に広がったのです。

私の父が若い頃、仮装して家々を回ったときは「ハロウィンパーティーを助けて」と言っていたそうです。どうやら「トリック・オア・トリート」という言葉がアイルランドに入ってきたのは50〜60年前のことのようです。私が子どもの頃にはすでに「トリック・オア・トリート」に変わっていて、通りのすべての家を回ったのを覚えています。
