 How are you today? I heard on the news that Shizuoka will have record high temperatures today. Take care and stay cool out there.

  Lots of things are happening at Hario at the moment. Our summer classes for grammar and conversation are ongoing. The students are working hard. We have some former Hario students, now in university, helping out in the special summer classes. It’s nice to see students I used to teach come back as temporary staff, sharing their knowledge and passion for English. 

  We have started the speech homework too. Students have been working hard to remember their word lists and starting to learn their speech. Some of the speeches are very long and complicated, depending on the students’ age and level. But even a 30 line speech can be mastered if you study consistently and learn a little more week by week. Good luck and keep going! 

 Our youngest students will perform a song and dance at this year’s speech contest in November. Alan and I have chosen some songs and after Obon we’ll distribute CDs and start practicing in class. I think we’ve found some good songs this year, catchy and with simple enough English. We hope you like them.

 Hario will be closed for the Obon holidays from tomorrow for one week. I hope you have a nice time, see friends and family, do something fun and rest and relax. I’ll be going to Omachi in Nagano, my wife’s hometown. It’s a little cooler there so I’m looking forward to it.

みなさん、こんにちは。今日は、静岡は最高気温を出したそうです。

猛烈な暑さにご注意ください。

今週も文法や英会話の夏期講習が行われています。HARIOの生徒達は一生懸命、勉強に励んでいます。夏期講習では、HARIOを卒業した生徒達、今は大学生になりましたが、彼らがサポートできてくれています。以前に教えていた生徒達が、こんどは生徒ではなくサポーターとしては働き、HARIOの一員になって協力くてくれるのは嬉しいことです。

 

スピーチホームワークのチェックも始まりました。まずは単語リストからはじまり、その後センテンスへと進みます。スピーチがとても長かったり、難しいスピーチの生徒もいますが、彼らの年令やレベルに合わせて作成しています。でもたとえ、３０行のスピーチであったとしても、少しずつ努力を続けていけば、マスターできると思います。がんばってください！

そして幼児クラス及びPLS１０、９級の生徒の皆さんは、１１月に行われるスピーチコンテストでは、何曲かの歌を舞台で披露します。アランと私で曲を選びました。お盆明けには、CDを配布できると思います。

クラス内での練習も始まります。皆さんが、それらの曲を気に入ってくれると嬉しいです。

 

HARIOは明日からお盆休みのため休校となります。家族やお友達とよい時間をすごしてくださいね。

私は妻の実家である長野県の大町に行きます。ここよりも少し涼しいと思うので行くのが楽しみです。
