How was your Golden Week?

Hello everyone,

Welcome back after the Golden Week break. Did you have a good holiday? For many, it was an uneventful week because of the travel restrictions in place due to the corona virus pandemic. People spent time at home with their families. The government is urging people to stay home to prevent the spread of the virus. My wife’s brother and sister usually travel back to their hometown of Fuji every Golden Week, but this year they stayed in Yokohama. I spent the vacation playing with my daughter at home. We played badminton in the garden, which we had great weather for. It became much warmer last week, and really felt like the start of summer. We had the Japanese custom of “Koromogae”, or changing the wardrobe of clothes from winter to summer. We never do this in Ireland because it’s always cold! Schoolchildren will face even more time at home now that schools are staying closed until June. I noticed that more and more businesses around the city are closing until the virus is under control. How long that will take is uncertain at the moment. I hope it doesn’t take too long.

Here at Hario, the shutdown hasn’t affected our classes much. You can still get Hario’s English classes online, using zoom. We are making the most of modern technology to bring Hario to everyone’s home. Online classes take some getting used to, but it’s definitely worth it to study at home to stay safe and get some much needed classes while the schools are closed. I look forward to seeing our students in person again, but until then we have the best alternative. So enjoy the online classes with us!
