Awaiting the rainy season and summer festivals

Hello everyone,

It’s a rainy day today. Has the rainy season begun already? It shouldn’t start for another week or two yet. The changing of the seasons brings rain for a month or so, until mid-July. When I first came to Japan, I was worried about the rainy season. I was told that it would rain almost every day. It wasn’t as bad as I expected however, we often have wet months like that in Ireland. The only difference is that it can happen any time of the year in Ireland! So I’m used to a bit of rain and it doesn’t bother me. The humidity is what really affects me in summer.

The arrival of summer means that there are festivals on the way! The Yoshiwara Gion festival is coming in just over a week, and I recommend paying a visit. Portable floats are paraded through the town by locals, accompanied by taiko drums. There are plenty of food and drink stalls set up at the festival every year, it’s a fun day out. One of the great things about Japan is that every city has a big festival with parades and fireworks every summer. It reminds me of the St. Patrick’s day celebrations back in Ireland, where we have parades, but no fireworks. Enjoy the summer festivals!

本日は雨模様ですねもう梅雨に入ったのでしょうか？もう1,2週先だと思っていましたが

これから7月中旬頃まで雨が多くなりますね。私が最初に日本に来た時、雨季が心配でした。ほぼ毎日雨が降ると聞かされていたのでしかしながら、それほど酷いわけでもなく、ほとんどアイルランドと同じ感じでした。唯一の違いといえば、アイルランドでは雨季というものが1年のどのタイミングでも起こり得るという事ですなので雨には慣れていますし、気にもなりません。気になるのは夏のジメジメした暑さです

夏の到来ということはお祭りのシーズンが始まりますね吉原祇園祭もすぐに迫ってきています。ぜひ行ってみて下さい。太鼓の演奏とともに町をおみこしが練り歩きます。そして毎年、たくさんの屋台が並び、とても楽しい日になります私は毎年どこの町でもおみこしを担ぎ、花火があがる大きなお祭りがあるのは日本の素晴らしい所の1つだと思います。アイルランドにいた頃のセントパトリックスデーを思い出します。パレードはありましたが花火はありませんでしたけど
