Autumn approaching fast

Hello everyone,

It’s September already! I can already feel the weather cooling down today. The Autumn heat has faded and we are in the mid-20 degrees today. I wonder how long this cooler weather will last? We usually have extremely hot days in September too. The seasons seem to come a bit later in Japan compared to Ireland. For example, the warmest months in Ireland are June and July. It’s usually cooler in August, and pretty cold by September. Winter has a similar difference, where December is usually the coldest month in Ireland. However, Ireland has many cold months throughout autumn, winter and spring, so it’s difficult to choose a coldest month. With Autumn closing in we look forward to cooler weather, silver week, sports day, Halloween next month, and the Asian games, which are being held just down the road in Aichi. By “just down the road”, I mean it’s over two hours by car. It’s a phrase we use in Ireland to say something is nearby, but it’s often used sarcastically.

Here at Hario our Autumn campaign is already underway and we are already welcoming our newest students, who are as young as two years old. Even before they start talking, young children are quickly absorbing languages through input. The more they are exposed to languages at an early age, the faster they can pick it up in the future. もう9月ですね！今日は少し涼しくなってきて、秋の暑さも落ち着き、気温は20度台半ばになっています。この涼しさがどれくらい続くのか気になりますね。日本では9月にとても暑い日が続くこともありますし、季節の移り変わりがアイルランドより少し遅いように感じます。

例えば、アイルランドで一番暖かいのは6月と7月で、8月は少し涼しくなり、9月にはかなり寒くなります。冬も同じように違いがあり、アイルランドでは12月が最も寒いことが多いです。ただ、秋・冬・春の間はずっと寒い日が多いので、どの月が一番寒いか選ぶのは難しいほどです。

秋が近づくにつれ、涼しい気候やシルバーウィーク、運動会、来月のハロウィン、そして愛知で開催されるアジア大会など、楽しみが増えてきます。ちなみに「just down the road（すぐ近く）」という表現は、アイルランドでは皮肉を込めて使うことが多く、実際には車で2時間以上かかる場所でも使ったりします。
