Hello everyone,

I watched the table tennis teams world championship final on Sunday evening. In the women’s final, Japan faced off against China in the best of 5 matches. Both teams won two, so it went all the way to the fifth match to decide the winners. Sadly, for Japan, China won the gold, but it was an exciting match to watch. Japan’s team hadn’t won this conest in over 50 years, so it was sad to see them lose. Both Japan’s men’s and women’s teams have a Harimoto playing for them. Here at Hario, our Miss Harimoto isn’t bad at table tennis either. She has a fast forehand with top spin that I couldn`t reach in time. She beat me in a game of table tennis before, but I think I also won a game a few years before that. I wonder why Harimotos are good at this sport? I`ll need to practice more to win in the future!

Table tennis is one of the sports that never appears on TV in Ireland because there has never been a successful player from there. Sports usually become popular once the country has some international success. In Ireland there are popular sports that you don`t see in Japan, such as gaelic football, hurling, snooker and darts. On the other hand, I noticed that Japan has a lot of coverage in table tennis, badminton and winter sports.

There are less than three weeks to go until our Big Day out trip to the zoo this month. We are busy preparing for the big day. It’s going to be an amazing day riding on the train, then the bus, checking out all the animals at the zoo, and chilling for lunch in a park! Get ready for a very special day out!

日曜の夜に卓球の世界団体選手権の決勝を観ました。女子の決勝では、日本が中国と対戦し、5試合中3試合先取の形式でした。両チームが2試合ずつ勝ち、勝敗は最終の第5試合までもつれ込みました。残念ながら日本は金メダルを逃し、中国が優勝しましたがとてもエキサイティングな試合でした。

日本の女子チームは50年以上この大会で優勝していないので、負けてしまったのは残念でした

日本の男子チームと女子チームにはどちらも張本（はりもと）選手がいます。

ここハリオにも「はりもと」さんがいますが、彼女も卓球がなかなか上手です。彼女のトップスピンの効いた速いフォアハンドは、私が追いつけないほどでした。以前、卓球の試合で彼女に負けたことがありますが、数年前には私が勝った試合もあったと思います。どうして「はりもと」さんたちは卓球が上手いのでしょうね将来勝つために、もっと練習しないといけません。

卓球はアイルランドではテレビにほとんど登場しないスポーツです。アイルランドには卓球で成功した選手がいないためです。スポーツは、その国が国際的に成功すると人気が出るものです。アイルランドには、日本ではあまり見ないゲーリックフットボール、ハーリング、スヌーカー、ダーツなどの人気スポーツがあります。一方で、日本では卓球、バドミントン、ウィンタースポーツの放送が多いことに気づきました。

今月の動物園へのビッグデイアウトまで、あと3週間を切りました。
