Hello everyone,

I hope you are all staying warm the last few days. It’s been a warm winter except for this week! I was talking with some students recently about what kind of restaurants are found around the world. They asked me about Canadian food and I struggled to give them a good answer. A lot of food in Canada is from all over the world as Canada is a very international country, especially in a city like Toronto. But there is one type of restaurant that is found mostly in southeast Canada and north east United States, the chicken wing restaurant!

Now there are many restaurants in North America (and Japan) that serve chicken wings but the restaurants I’m mentioning serve ONLY chicken wings. These restaurants have over 100 different flavours of wings! Some are dry, some with a lot of sauce, some sweet, some salty and many that are very spicy. My friends and I had a local wing restaurant that we went to often. We tried to keep track of all the flavours we tried and rank them from best to worst. Some of my favourite flavours are ones you might think sound strange like Cranberry and Chocolate of the God of Thunder (hot sauce, caeser dressing and parmesan cheese).

今年の冬は暖かいと思っていましたが、今週は寒いです。

この間生徒と、世界にあるレストランの話をしました。生徒達はカナダの食べ物について聞いてきたのですが、私は答えに困ってしまいました。というのも、私の故郷であるトロントは特に、多国籍の街であるため、世界中の食べ物、レストランがあるので、カナダの食べ物をみつけるのは難しいです。しかし、チキンウィングのレストランはカナダらしいのかもしれません。

アメリカでも日本でもチキンウィングを出すレストランはたくさんありますが、チキンウィング専門店はカナダだけかもしれません。それらの専門店では、１００種類もの味のチキンウィングが売っています。ソースがかかったものや甘い味、塩味、スパイシーな味。私と友人は、地元のあるチキンウィング専門レストランによく行っていました。そしてどの味がいいのかランキングをつけていました。一番おいしいと思ったのは、名前は「クランベリーと雷神のチョコ」という変わったものでしたが、ホットソースとシーザードレッシング、パルメザンチーズ味でした。
