Today was the World Cup final. With Spain winning over Argentina to be crowned World Cup Champions!

今日は、ワールドカップの決勝戦でした。スペインがアルゼンチンに勝ち、ワールドカップ王者となりました。

While my country, England, didn’t quite make it all the way, I have to admit that if you had told me before the tournament that England would finish third, I would have been absolutely thrilled. Unfortunately, because so many of the games kicked off early in the morning, it was tough to catch every single one.

イングランドは最後まで勝ち進むことはできませんでしたが、もし大会前に「イングランドは3位で終わるよ」と言われていたら、私は間違いなく大喜びしていたと思います。ただ、試合の多くが早朝にキックオフだったので、すべての試合を追うのはなかなか大変でした。

For me, the standout moment of the tournament was England’s win against Mexico. Not only were we playing them on their home ground, but we also had to do it with only 10 men for a good part of the match. Holding onto that lead made for a nerve-wracking final 20 minutes!

私にとって大会のハイライトは、イングランドがメキシコに勝った試合です。相手のホームで戦っただけでなく、試合の大部分を10人で戦わなければならなかったのです。最後の20分は本当にハラハラする展開でした。

Sadly, our run ended with a loss to Argentina, but the third-place play-off against France was pure entertainment. Winning 6-4 in a high-scoring, thrilling match was fantastic, and seeing the English and French players come together afterwards really showed the true unity and love of the sport.

残念ながら、イングランドの挑戦はアルゼンチン戦で終わってしまいましたが、 3位決定戦のフランス戦は純粋にエンターテインメントでした。 6対4というハイスコアのスリリングな試合で勝利し、試合後にイングランドとフランスの選手たちが互いに歩み寄る姿は、スポーツへの団結と愛をしっかりと感じさせてくれるものでした。

We might not have lifted the trophy, but it was an incredibly fun and exciting tournament. Now, I’m already looking forward to 2030, when the opening matches will be hosted by Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, before the tournament moves to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Six countries spanning three continents!

私達イングランドはトロフィーを掲げることはできませんでしたが、それでも本当に楽しくてワクワクする大会でした。そして今はもう、2030年大会が楽しみで仕方ありません。開幕戦はウルグアイ、アルゼンチン、パラグアイで行われ、その後スペイン、ポルトガル、モロッコへと舞台が移ります。 3つの大陸にまたがる6か国開催なんて、まさに壮大な大会になりそうです。
