Hello everyone,

It’s October, the spookiest month of the year! It’s time to come up with a good costume idea, because at the end of the month it will be Hario Halloween week. From October 25th, we will have one full week of fully costumed classes! I can’t wait. What are you going to dress up as?

This week is our final week of online classes. I think the students did a great job all through the month of these classes. They adapted very well and were able to make the best use of technology. Well done to all of them for making our online classes a success. I’m looking forward to seeing them again in person next week. It’s amazing what we can do with the technology available these days. All we need is an electronic device and we can connect with anyone in the world almost as if they are in the room. 20 years ago, if you wanted to call someone abroad you would have to pay a lot of money just to speak for one minute on the telephone. I remember when I started using skype to video call my parents from Japan. My father would stop after a few minutes and say, “We should go, this call must be costing you a lot of money.” I had to explain to him that video calls on the internet are free. Things have totally changed with how we communicate in the information age. I’m glad to have the tools to connect with friends, family, and students alike. Welcome back to Hario next week!

一年で最も不気味な月、10月です

月末はハリオのハロウィーンウィークです。良いコスチュームのアイデアを思いつきましたか。

10月25日から1週間コスチュームを着て学校にきます。私は待ちきれません。皆さんは何のコスチュームを着ますか。

今週がオンラインクラスの最後の週となりました。

生徒達が、オンライン授業に慣れるようになりました。現代のテクノロジーを最大限に活用して、生徒達は頑張ってくれました。

来週は、直接会えるのを楽しみにしています。

最近のテクノロジーで使って、我々ができることは驚くべきことです。必要なのは電子機器だけで、まるで部屋にいるかのように世界中の誰とでもつながることができます。 20年前、海外の人に電話をかけたいと思ったら、電話で1分間話すだけでも多額のお金を払わなければなりませんでした。スカイプを使って日本から両親にビデオ通話を始めたときのことを覚えています。私の父はスカイプで話をして数分後に、「電話を切らないと！多額の請求がくるよ！」とよく言っていました。私は彼にインターネット上のビデオ通話は無料だと彼に説明しなければなりませんでした。情報化時代のコミュニケーションの仕方によって、状況は一変しました。友だち、家族、生徒達とどこでも無料で、簡単につながるツールができてうれしい限りです
