Only one month to go until the Tokyo Olympics begins. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding them this year, with the pandemic still going strong in Tokyo. They have announced that 10,000 spectators can enter the venue, but there are concerns because most Japanese people haven’t had a vaccine yet. What do you think? In Europe the Euro Soccer Cup is underway. It’s the second largest international cup after the World Cup. Just like the Olympics it was originally going to be held in 2020, but was postponed. It’s similar to the World Cup because countries have to qualify for it first of all. There are 55 countries in European football! There are far too many teams to put straight into the Euro Cup. So there are qualifying stages beforehand, and 24 teams go to the Cup. There are so many strong teams in Europe that it isn’t easy to qualify. Ireland didn’t even make it this time! We are now in the group stages of the cup, and there are plenty of exciting matches to look forward to. Similar to the Tokyo Olympics, about 10,000 spectators can attend the matches, which are held all across Europe. We will see if that has an impact on the pandemic. Europe is making good progress with vaccines, however. Many people my age already have at least one dose. It’s only a matter of time before we can get things back to normal, or “the new normal” as they call it.

東京オリンピックまであと一カ月となりました。

東京でコロナ感染者が依然おさまらない中でのオリンピック開催について、多くの論争があります。10,000人の観客が入場できると発表されましたが、日本人のほとんどはまだワクチンを接種していません。みなさんはどう思いますかヨーロッパでは、ユーロサッカーカップが進行中です。ワールドカップに次ぐ2番目に大きなインターナショナルカップです。オリンピックと同じように、もともとは2020年に開催される予定でしたが、延期されました。この大会はワールドカップに似ています。出場する国は、55か国もあります！チームが多すぎるため、事前に予選ステージがあり、24チームがカップに出場します。ヨーロッパには強力なチームがたくさんあるので、出場資格を得るのは簡単ではありません。今回はアイルランドもだめでした。今はグループステージにあり、楽しみにしている組み合わせの試合がたくさんあります。東京オリンピックと同様に、ヨーロッパ全土で開催される試合には約1万人の観客が参加できます。それがコロナ感染にどう影響を与えるかどうかを我々はみることになるでしょう。ヨーロッパではワクチン接種が順調に進んでいます。私の年齢の人達でも、多くの人が少なくとも1回の接種を完了しています。私たちの日常がもとに戻る日、または新しい日常になる日は、時間の問題です。
