A Fun Obon Week　楽しいお盆休み

I hope you enjoyed the break last week during mountain day and Obon. I had a great time starting with a barbeque at our house. It was the first time I had ever hosted a bbq, so I wasn’t sure if I could cook properly. Thankfully, there were some barbeque veterans present, and they showed me how it’s done. You can always trust an Australian to know how to do a proper “barbie”, as it’s called over there! My mother-in-law is also very good at cooking, and she made slow roast beef skewers with garlic, delicious! The heat of the barbeque grill, combined with temperatures of around 36 degrees was too much for me, so I felt a bit dizzy from it all. It was great fun despite the heat.

On Monday last week, I travelled to Yokohama to visit IKEA, the famous Swedish furniture store. It’s an enormous building, and you have to follow a route around the store so that you view everything. It takes a long time to get through the whole store, so I found it almost impossible not to buy something. They also have a nice restaurant, with cakes made to look like Swedish flags.

Have you been watching the Olympics this week? Ireland has gotten two silver medals so far, in rowing and sailing. We usually get medals in boxing, but some of Ireland’s boxers have been eliminated due to controversial judges’ decisions. Hopefully we can secure some more medals during the competition. Japan is doing quite well, with gold medals in swimming, judo and gymnastics. I was happy to see Usain Bolt make history and win his third 100 meters gold medal. I don’t think it will be matched anytime soon.

みなさんこんにちは。

先週のお盆休みは楽しめましたか私のお盆休みは自宅でのバーベキューからはじまりました。バーベキューを開催するのは初めてなのでちゃんと料理できるか心配でした。でもありがたいことにバーベキューのベテランが参加してくれていましたので、彼等にどう料理するかを教わりました。もしオーストラリアの人がいればバービー（オーストラリアでバーベキューの事）の作り方はいつでも頼っていいと思います。また私の義理の母も料理が得意で、にんにくと牛肉の串焼きを作ってくれました。これがまたとっても美味しかったですバーベキューの火と外の気温と相まって、私にとっては暑すぎて少し目まいがするくらいでしたが、暑さだけを除けばとっても楽しかったです。

先週の月曜日にはスウェーデンの家具で有名な横浜イケアに行ってきました。巨大な建物で、ルートが決められており、それに従わなければなりませんので全ての商品を見ることが出来ます。かなり時間が掛かりますので、何も買わずに出てくるのは不可能だろうなと思いました
レストランなんかもあり、スウェーデンの国旗を模したケーキなんかも売っていました。

皆さんはオリンピックはご覧になっていますか？アイルランドはこれまでにローイングとセイリングで2つの銀メダルを獲得しましたいつもはアイルランドはボクシングでメダルを獲得しますが、今回は有名なボクサーが出場資格を失い出場できなくなりました。それでも今大会、まだアイルランドにはメダルのチャンスが十分にあると思います。日本も柔道、体操、水泳などで多くの金メダルを獲得し、頑張っていますね。私はウサイン・ボルトがオリンピック3連覇を果たしとても嬉しく思いますこの記録はしばらく並ばれることはないでしょうね。残りのオリンピックも楽しんでください。
