Are you looking forward to the long weekend? This weekend many of us have an extra day off on Monday because it’s “Umi no hi” or “sea day”. The ocean is an important part of Japanese life and we see that in the food. There is so much fantastic seafood available in this country. I was always surprised by the variety of fish and seafood that we have here. It’s not so readily available in other countries, so make the most of it and be thankful for Japan’s rich ocean next Monday. There have been a few holidays that were changed by the Japanese government to Monday in recent years. This is called the “Happy Monday” system and created three-day weekends for people with five-day work weeks. It makes people’s weekends a bit happier! Just watch out for traffic, because many people will decide to go on a trip somewhere during the long weekend.
Here at Hario this week, we are busy putting together the speech homework for our students. Each student who wrote a speech will get an exclusive Hario speech file with a CD. They can listen to myself or Kevin’s perfect pronunciation, and practice to sound just like a native speaker. Good luck everyone!
