Yesterday was the longest day of the year, or summer solstice. It’s the day where we have the most hours of daylight. Here in Japan, I noticed that it started to get dark at 7:00PM yesterday. In Ireland, however, the sun sets at around 9:30PM on this day. The sun rises at about 4:30AM, so there are 17 hours of daylight! It feels strange to walk around outside in broad daylight at 9.00PM. This is in stark contrast to Ireland’s dark winter solstice. On December 21st, the sun rises at 8:30AM and sets at 3:50PM, giving us only around 7 hours of daylight! We have very bright summers and dark winters in my home country. In Ireland it can rain during any season, be it summer or winter. There is no rainy season, and we just have to accept that it can be wet at any time. The rainy season has begun here in Fuji. It’s very humid and we are getting frequent showers. Once the cloud clears next month, it will stay hot and humid for another few months.
Here at Hario we are taking signings for our private summer vacation classes. You can get a head start on your English over the vacation with conversation and grammar classes, so sign up today!
