Make a wish　星に願いを

Hello everyone,

Have you seen what’s at the top of the stairs in Hario this week? It’s a sasa no ha (bamboo) tree! What are those coloured pieces of paper hanging from the tree? They’re wishes. Each of our students writes a wish on a piece of paper and hangs it on the tree for good luck. This tradition is called Tanabata or the Star Festival. The Tanabata festival falls on July 7th every year. It celebrates the meeting of two gods named Orihime and Hikoboshi. According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month. The bamboo and paper wishes are often set afloat on a river or burned after the festival. This is a very old custom that dates as far back as 755 AD. So make a wish, hang on the tree and hope that it comes true. I’ve seen some interesting wishes on the tree already. Some students have wished for certain occupations when they are older, others want to be rich, while some just can’t wait to grow taller! Whatever you wish for, don’t just wait for it to happen, work hard to make it come true.

Hario の階段の上に何が飾られているか見ましたか七夕の笹が今週より飾られています。色とりどりの短冊に生徒さん達のいろいろな願い事が書かれて飾られています七夕は英語で言うと「the star festival」（星のお祭り）といいます。七夕は毎年7月7日に当たります。織姫と彦星の再会をお祝いするお祭りです。言い伝えによると、天の川が織姫と彦星を引き離し、7月7日に一度だけ再会を許されたとされています。七夕が終わると、笹や短冊は燃やしたり川に流されたりします。これはとても古い習慣で紀元755年までさかのぼります。みなさんも願い事をして、願がかなうようにお願いしましょうHarioの笹には面白いお願いごともいくつか見つけました。将来なりたいものやお金持ちになりたい、背が大きくなりたいなど様々です願いが何であれ、それが起こるのを待つのではなく、起こるように動いて見て下さい
