Hello everyone,

How are you doing? Next week Hario English School will be closed for Silver Week. I hope you have some time off then and do something fun. As I wrote last week, today the people of Scotland will vote on whether to become and independent country. I’m very interested to see the result.

Last weekend my old school friend visited my wife and me in Fuji. He now lives in Paris and has a French wife, and we’ve managed to stay in contact through the years. They had a two week holiday in Japan and stayed with us for a couple of days during their holiday. They were really impressed by Japan; the Shinkansens, the cleanliness, the hospitality and the wonderful food. I took them to a local festival with bamboo art and to the Shiraito Waterfalls. We had a great time catching up. My wife is Japanese and his wife is French but they were able to communicate using English. That’s one of the great benefits of learning English. You can communicate with people all over the world, even other non-English speakers.

いかがお過ごしですか。HARIOイングリッシュスクールは来週は秋休みのため授業がありません。お休み、楽しんでくださいね。先週ブログに投稿したように、今日はスコットランドの国民投票の日です。独立するのかしないのか、結果がとても気になります。

先週末、私の学生時代の友人が富士に遊びに来てくれました。彼はにはフランス人の奥さんがおり、今はパリに住んでいます。2週間のお休みで2人は日本に来て、そのうちの数日間は私たちと一緒に過ごしました。日本の新幹線や清潔さ、おもてなしと美味しい食べ物にとても感動したようです。私たちは白糸の滝で行われていた竹細工のお祭りに行きました。私の妻は日本人で、彼の奥さんはフランス人ですが、英語を使って会話をしました。本当に英語って便利ですよね。英語が使えると、英語が母語でない国の人たちも含めて、世界中の人と話すことができます
