Happy new year everyone!

 

I hope you had a good time ringing in the New Year. I certainly did back in Ireland. With the New Year comes a new chapter for Hario English School. I see many great days ahead of us this year.

 

I had some time off in December, so I took the opportunity to visit my family and friends in Dublin, Ireland. It was a tiring journey, consisting of a 4 hour bus ride to Narita airport, a 12 hour flight to London, followed by another 1 hour flight to Dublin. I was shattered by the time I landed in Ireland, but the tiredness magically wore off when I met my family. It`s been a long time since I had eaten one of my Mother`s delicious dinners at home. It was also fantastic to see my friends again. Many of them are in a similar situation to myself, living in countries all around the World. But we had all returned home for Christmas. In Ireland it`s a tradition to spend Christmas with your family, and my friends were no exception. I enjoyed a delicious traditional Christmas dinner of turkey, ham, brussel sprouts, carrots, potatoes, mince pies and Christmas pudding. As you can probably guess I was extremely full after all of that. Once I had gotten over the jet-lag (I was falling asleep at any time during the day) it was like I had never left Ireland. The people, the places, they were all just as I had left them. It made the prospect of spending another year away from them less daunting. So I`m much more at ease coming back to Japan, my new home, for another year. It will be a fantastic year and a great new adventure lies ahead. I wish you good fortune and happiness for 2014.

 

 

みなさん、あけましておめでとうございます。

みなさんは良い新年を迎えましたか。

私はもちろん、アイルランドで最高の新年を迎えました。そして新たなHARIO での年の始まりです。

今年もよい年になりますように。

 

私は２１日からの冬やすみを利用してアイルランドに帰省し、家族や友人と久しぶりに会うことができました。

ただ、ここから故郷のダブリンまでの道のりは遠すぎました。成田までバスで４時間、

ロンドンまで飛行機で１２時間、ロンドンからダブリンまで飛行機で１時間・・・

 

故郷についたときには、くたくたでしたが、家族にあった瞬間に、その疲れが不思議に吹き飛びました。

母の手作りの料理も久しぶりにたべました。

友人達にも久しぶりにあい、感激しました。

私の友人の多くは、私と同じように、海外にすんでいますが、クリスマスには皆が故郷に帰ってきました。

アイルランドでは、クリスマスを家族や友人とすごす伝統があります。

アイルランドの伝統的なクリスマス料理、七面鳥、ハム、芽キャベツ、人参、ポテト、ひき肉パイ、

クリスマスプリン・・・などたくさん食べました。

 

数日して時差ボケが治ると、なんだか自分は本当に１年間、ここにいなかったのか？と思うようになりました。

人、場所など周りのすべてが、１年前に日本へ発ったときと変わっていなかったからです。

きっと来年帰ってきても同じことを思うのでしょう。

 

今年も日本での沢山の冒険に出会うと思います。充実した幸せな２０１４年になりますように。
