Keeping up with Technology

Hello everyone,

We’re going back online this week. It’s a familiar situation for students all over the world, as so many schools have done online lessons already. Most of our students have experienced online lessons already, so they are used to learning in a virtual setting. When kids grow up around technology, they find it easy to use every day. It’s different for me, as when I was growing up, we didn’t have the internet or video calls. So I had to learn how to use this new technology. I noticed how most kids these days are good at using tablets and have no problems talking to me on a computer screen. As new technology comes along, some old things must die out. One such example I noticed is how we watch TV. My generation grew up watching TV channels sent over the airwaves to the ariel on our house. This was how TV worked since the very start. Since then, streaming services have come along where we can choose what to watch, anytime. My wife’s parents still watch regular TV stations like before. My daughter, however, only uses streaming services such as youtube and amazon prime. I think that’s a sign of the future. The old ways of waiting for a TV program at a certain time will be over in a few years. Everyone will use streaming services, because that’s what they grew up with. Sometimes it’s difficult for older people to adapt to new technology. It always progresses and changes so quickly. I’ll do my best to keep up when I’m old! 今週からHARIOでは、すべてのレッスンがオンラインに変わりました。

生徒達はすでにオンラインレッスンを経験しているので、この学習環境に慣れています。子供はその時代のテクノロジー環境で成長していくと、それが使いやすいと感じます。私が子供の時はインターネットやビデオ通話がありませんでした。そのため、この新しいテクノロジーの使用方法を今学ぶ必要がありました。最近の子供はタブレットの使用が上手で、パソコンの画面で問題なく話しかけています。新しいテクノロジーが登場するにつれて、いくつかの古いものは消滅しなければなりません。たとえば、テレビを見る方法です。私の世代は、電波を介して家のアリエルに送られるテレビチャンネルを見て育ちました。その後、いつでも何を視聴するかを選択できるストリーミングサービスが登場しました。私の妻の両親は今も昔と同じように通常のテレビ局の番組をみています。しかし、私の娘はyoutubeやamazonprimeなどのストリーミングサービスしか見ません。それは未来のサインだと思います。テレビ番組を待つという古いやり方は、数年で終わるでしょう。ストリーミングサービスで育った若い人はそれらを使っていくでしょう。高齢者が新しいテクノロジーに適応するのが難しい場合があります。技術は、常に進歩し、速く変化します。私も年をとったらついていくように頑張ります
