Hello everyone,

Are you enjoying the Olympics so far? Only a few more days to go before it’s all over on Sunday. Japan is doing well with 17 gold medals, and are currently 3rd in the medal leader board. Ireland have won 1 gold medal so far, in the men’s rowing. They won silver in the Rio Olympics 5 years ago. The women’s rowing team won bronze. All of those athletes are from the same small rowing club in a tiny town in Ireland. Now that club has winners of gold, silver and bronze medals. Ireland also won a bronze medal in boxing. After the semi-final, the Irish boxer Aidan Walsh was announced the winner of the fight and he jumped to celebrate. As he jumped he sprained his ankle and was too injured to fight in the final! So he automatically got a bronze medal and his dream of gold is over. All because he jumped around celebrating. I hope Ireland can get a few more medals before the end of the games. Another boxer, Kellie Harrington, who was the flag bearer at the opening ceremony is Ireland’s biggest hope for a medal now. She has won some world boxing championships recently. Also good luck to Japan in the soccer semi- final tonight against Spain.

We have a holiday next week for Obon. What are your plans? This week is usually the hottest of the year. Now we are at the height of summer, so the temperatures are above 30 degrees every day. I think I’ll have to stay inside during the day. We have an inflatable pool in our garden, so I’ll cool down in that! Whatever your plans are, enjoy Obon week!
