Are you enjoying the World Cup? Japan has had a great week and played two great games since last Tuesday. On Tuesday evening they beat Colombia 2-1 in a big shock. Colombia were hot favorites to win, and they are far higher than Japan. The “Blue Samurai” took an early lead from a penalty, and Colombia also had a red card. Japan had a lot of chances and finally got a winning goal in the second half. Their next game against Senegal on Sunday night was a hard fought draw. The match started at midnight, and some of our students actually stayed up late to watch it! They are really dedicated fans. Senegal took the lead twice, but Japan equalised both times, with goals from Inui and Honda. Keisuke Honda has now scored in three separate World Cups, and holds the record for the most World Cup goals by an Asian player. He has been a substitute for the matches so far, but I wonder if he will start the next game after scoring that goal. Their next game against Poland takes place on Thursday. If Senegal beat Colombia in the next game, Japan will qualify for the next round, win or lose. A draw with Poland will be enough to secure a place in the last 16, but even if Japan lose to Poland, they still have a chance to qualify. I wish Japan good luck in this World Cup. Will they get past the last 16 round this time?

Aside from all of the football mania that’s going on at the moment, we are busy recording the speeches here at Hario. I have really enjoyed seeing what’s in store for us with this year’s speech homework. I can’t wait to hear the students perform these speeches for themselves. They will get a real sense of pride and accomplishment when the hard work pays off and they give a great performance.

みなさんこんにちは。

ワールドカップを楽しんでいますでしょうか？日本は先週の火曜から素晴らしい試合をしました。

火曜日の夜に衝撃の２対１でコロンビアを打ち負かしました

コロンビアは日本よりもはるかにレベルが高いので、勝者の本命でした。

「青いサムライ」はペナルティキックでリードし、コロンビアはレッドカードになりました。

日本は多くのチャンスを得て、ついにセカンドハーフで決勝点をとりました

二戦目の日曜夜のセネガル戦は激戦の末の引き分けでした。その試合は深夜にはじまりました。試合を見るために夜更かしした生徒もいたようです実に熱心なファンです。

セネガルは２度リードをしましたが、日本は２回とも乾と本田のゴールで同点に追いつきました。

本田圭佑はこれで３度のワールドカップで得点したことになり、アジア選手によるワールドカップ最多得点記録を保持しました

彼は今のところ補欠ですが、あのゴールを決めた後で、次の試合はスタートになるのではと考えています。

次の試合は木曜日のポーランド戦です。もしもセネガルが次の試合でコロンビアを倒したら、日本は勝っても負けても決勝トーナメント出場の資格を得ます。ポーランドと引き分けだったら１６位は守られますが、たとえもし日本がポーランドに負けてもまだ予選通過のチャンスはあります。

日本のワールドカップでの幸運を祈ります今回はベスト１６位をとれるのでしょうか？
