Hello everyone,

Are you excited for the World Cup? It’s spread across three countries, USA, Mexico and Canada, so there will be three separate opening ceremonies. The first one in Mexico takes place on June 11th, but it will be June 12th here. The times and dates of the matches can be a little confusing because of the time zone difference. The U.S. has four different time zones, and California is 16 hours behind Japan. So, be careful what day you think a match will take place, it could be a day later here in Japan. Thankfully, not all of the matches will take place at night. We can watch Japan’s second game at 1:00PM on Sunday, June 21st. I have noticed that many matches will take place early in the morning. Who is brave enough to get up at 5:00AM to watch Japan’s first game against the Netherlands? Ireland didn’t qualify for this World Cup after losing out on a place on penalty kicks after their playoffs. So, I’ll support Japan for this years tournament. I hope the Blue Samurai can do well despite their tough opening group. None of the teams in Japan’s group are pushovers. There are more teams in this years world cup, so some very small nations qualified. Curacao has a population of only 150,000 people, which is about half the population of Fuji City! I wonder how they will do against big teams like Germany.

ワールドカップが楽しみですか。今回はアメリカ、メキシコ、カナダの3か国で開催されるので、開会式も3回行われます。最初の開会式はメキシコで6月11日に行われますが、日本では6月12日になります。アメリカには4つのタイムゾーンがあり、カリフォルニアは日本より16時間遅れているため、試合の日程や時間は少しややこしいです。日本で試合がいつ行われるのか、1日ずれる可能性があるので気をつけてください。
