Cherry Blossom season!

Hello everyone,

We began the month with “April showers”, which aren`t as common in Japan, but it`s quite a wet month in Ireland. We`ve had three days of rain in a row! I can`t remember the last time we had so much rain, not this year at least. Thankfully it`s drying up today and I can see the sun coming out as I write this. Last weekend was the perfect time to go out and see the cherry blossoms. They were in full bloom, so I went to the Sumpu Castle Park in Shizuoka to enjoy them. It was actually my first time in that park, which is strange considering I`ve been living in this prefecture for so long. It has lots of beautiful cherry blossoms inside and outside surrounding the park, so I recommend checking it out for “hanami” when you get the chance. The rain has only just stopped this afternoon, so I`m curious to see how much of the cherry blossom survived the heavy rain. Only the strongest petals will have held on by now. Will we see any pink at the cherry blossom festival in my local park this weekend? Only time will tell. Due to the cherry blossoms and warm weather, April is probably my favorite month of the year in Japan. As long as it stays dry, enjoy going out to parks, even if there isn`t much pink left! 4月の始まりは “April showers（四月の雨）” からでしたね。日本ではあまり聞き慣れない言葉ですが、アイルランドでは4月は雨の多い月なんです。実際、ここ数日は3日連続で雨でした。今年に入ってから、こんなに続けて降ったのは初めてかもしれません。でも今日はようやく雨が上がり、こうして書いている今、太陽が顔を出し始めています。

先週末はお花見にぴったりのタイミングでした。桜が満開だったので、静岡の駿府城公園へ行ってきました。実はあの公園に行くのは今回が初めてで、長くこの県に住んでいるのに不思議な気分でした。公園の内側にも外側にも桜がたくさん咲いていて、とてもきれいでしたよ。機会があれば、ぜひ“花見スポット”として訪れてみてください。
