Hello everyone,

Everyone is back to school this week! For most of our students, the first day back was yesterday. I started walking with my daughter halfway to school again. She walks the rest of the way with friends, which is the usual way to get to school in Japan. In Ireland, many students go to school by car. It’s about 50/50 between walking and getting a lift by car. I remember my elementary school was much too far to walk, so my parents drove me there every day. Good luck to all of our students in their new grades, especially those who are starting a new elementary, junior high or high school. That’s a big new adventure, and it’s very nerve-wracking. They are worried about making new friends, what their teachers will be like, and how much homework they will get. They needn’t worry, everyone settles in to a new school eventually. Now that the spring vacation is over, there are just a few short weeks until Golden Week is upon us. It begins on a Friday this year, so people are already making preparations for a long weekend. What are you going to do?

I’ve noticed the cherry blossoms are in full bloom this week. There isn’t much more time left, so if you want to have a hanami picnic under the trees, this weekend is a good time. The weather forecast for this weekend is partially sunny and warm, much better than the cold rain last weekend. So enjoy going back to school, and enjoy the rest of the cherry blossom.
