When is it too early for Christmas decorations?

Hello everyone,

It’s November now and Halloween already seems like a distant memory. In Ireland, as soon as November begins, Christmas decorations go up all over the country. Many businesses, especially retail, like to put up Christmas decorations as early as possible to persuade people to go shopping for presents, even though it’s seven weeks away! This strategy works, as shops get very busy from now on with people doing “Christmas shopping”. I think if it wasn’t for Halloween, shops would put up Xmas decorations in October. Personally, I prefer to wait until December to get into the Christmas spirit and decorate the place. There is a big debate that takes place every year at this time: Is November too early to put up Christmas decorations? What do you think?

Here at Hario, November means we have reached the month of the speech contest. It’s only two and a half weeks away, so we are busy preparing for the big day. The speech homework has finished, and now it’s up to the students to perfect their speeches in the run up to the contest. We’ve been interviewing our students for their thoughts ahead of the contest. I noticed that many of them are very competitive and want to win a prize. They are classmates here at Hario, but will be fierce rivals on the big day. That can be great motivation to work hard. 11月に入り、ハロウィーンはすでに遠い昔のようです。アイルランドでは、11月に入るとすぐにクリスマスの装飾が町全体に施されます　多くの会社、特に小売業は、クリスマスまで7週間もあるというのに、できるだけ早くクリスマスの飾り付けをし、プレゼントを買いに行くように仕向けます　この戦略は功を奏し、お店はこれから「クリスマス・ショッピング」をする人達でごった返しになるんです　もしハロウィンがなかったら、お店では10月からクリスマスの飾り付けをしていたと、私は思います　でも個人的には、クリスマス気分を盛り上げるために飾り付けをするのは12月まで待ちたいですね～

毎年この時期に大きな論争が起こるのはアイルランドだけですか？ 11月にクリスマスの飾り付けをするのは早すぎる？あなたはどう思いますか

ここハリオでは、11月といえばスピーチコンテストですあと2週間半で本番なので、その準備に追われています　スピーチの宿題も終わり、あとは生徒たちがコンテストに向けてスピーチを練習するだけです。今、生徒たちにコンテストへの意気込みを聞いています　その結果、多くの生徒がとても競争心が強く、賞を取りたがっていることに気づきました。彼らはハリオのクラスメートですが、本番では熾烈なライバルになります。それは頑張る大きなモチベーションとなります
