As we reach the end of July and summer really starts to heat up, it looks like this week’s temperatures will climb even higher around midweek. I always find it tough to get through the summer here in Japan!

7月も終盤に差し掛かり、夏が本格的に暑くなってきましたね。今週は週の中頃にかけて気温がさらに上昇しそうです！日本の夏を乗り切るのは、いつも大変だなと感じています。

One upside, though, is the widespread use of air conditioning. Back in the UK, most homes don’t have it; it’s usually only found in shops and office buildings. While UK summers haven’t traditionally been as long or as hot as those in Japan, that’s been changing in recent years.

それでも日本の夏のいい点は、エアコンが広く使われていることです。イギリスでは、大半の家庭にエアコンがなく、通常は店舗やオフィスビルにしか設置されていません。これまでイギリスの夏は、日本ほど長くて暑くなることはありませんでしたが、近年はそれも変わりつつあります。

As temperatures continue to rise around the world, more people in the UK are starting to consider installing air conditioning. In fact, in some parts of Europe, the heat has become so extreme that schools and other facilities have struggled to operate during peak summer days.

世界中で気温が上昇し続ける中、イギリスではエアコンの設置を検討する人が増えてきています。実際、ヨーロッパの一部地域では、暑さがあまりにも極端になり、夏のピーク時に学校やその他の施設が運営に苦慮する状況が見られるようになっています。
