Don’t play games at the temple お寺でゲームは禁止！

Hello everyone,

I’m enjoying the cooler weather now. The summer humidity has left, and it’s still warm during the day. I just hope that the typhoons stop coming to Japan. Did you enjoy the long weekend? Japan’s “Happy Mondays” holiday system came into play last Monday with “Health and Sport’s Day”. My daughter’s Aunt and Uncle took her to the Anpanman museum in Yokohama. Anpanman is still one of her favourite characters, but he has recently been overtaken by Peppa Pig, an English cartoon character. Peppa Pig is hugely popular among children in Ireland and the U.K. It still has a long way to go to become as popular as Anpanman, however, which has been around for over 30 years! I’m amazed by how much merchandise the company sells. Every young child I meet here has something related to Anpanman. Every toy store is packed full of his merchandise. They really know how to make a successful kid’s character.

I was at a temple recently and I saw a sign on the door. It asked people to stop playing “Pokemon Go” in the temple grounds. It turns out the popular smartphone game has pokemon to be found around temples and shrines in Japan. This brings many people to these places for the wrong reason. They come there to play games! The priests at the temples and shrines don’t like this so they are trying to crack down on the latest craze by putting up signs. So remember, put your smartphone away at the temple, or you might meet an angry priest!

みなさんこんにちは。

最近、気候がどんどん涼しくなっていますね。私にとってはすごく嬉しい事です。夏の蒸し暑さは去り、日中は過ごしやすい気候になっています。唯一願うことは、これ以上台風が来ない事です

皆さんは3連休は楽しめましたか？”体育の日”がハッピーマンデー制度として3連休となりました。私の娘はおじいちゃん、おばあちゃんに横浜にあるアンパンマンミュージアムに連れて行ってもらっていました。アンパンマンはいまだに娘のお気に入りキャラクターですが、最近はイギリスのアニメキャラクターであるペッパピッグの方がさらにお気に入りになっているようです
ペッパピッグはアイルランドやイギリスの子供達の間では絶大な人気を誇っています。30年以上続いているアンパンマンと同じくらい人気になるにはまだまだ時間が掛かると思いますが、どれほどの関連グッズが売れたんだろうと考えるととても驚きます。日本の子供たちは何かしらアンパンマンに関連したおもちゃなどを持っていますよね。おもちゃやさんも彼のグッズでいっぱいです。きっとアンパンマンの会社は子供達の心を掴むキャラクターの作り方を知っているのでしょう

私はこの間お寺に行ったのですが、その時に扉にあるサインを見つけました。そのサインには”お寺内でポケモンGOをしないでください。”と書いてありました。日本のお寺や神社でポケモンが見つかり、その結果間違った理由での来訪が増えているようです彼らはゲームをしに来ているんです。神社やお寺の神父さんは当然そのような事にはなってほしくないわけですから、この今最も流行っているゲームに対しての措置を取ったのです。なので皆さんも覚えておいてください。お寺ではスマートフォンはさわらない！さもないと怒った神父さんに会ってしまうかもしれません
