How are you? Are you on your summer holidays? Most of our students have started their summer vacation by now. We have extra summer grammar and conversation classes and it’s nice to see students motivated and working hard studying extra English. I hope everyone has some free time and does something to relax like take a trip or see friends and family.
I’m sure you’ve heard of Pokemon Go by now. The new smartphone game was released in Japan last Friday having become a social phenomenon in the USA and around the world. It’s an augmented reality game in which you use your phone’s GPS and camera to find Pokemon and battle in the real world. There is a Pokestop just around the corner from Hario in the shrine and the Post Office is a ‘Training Gym’ where you can battle other players. I never played the original Pokemon game but I’m enjoying playing this. I was at Hiromi Park yesterday and it was full of people playing the game. I like this game because unlike most games, it gets you outdoors and interacting with your community and environment. I like bird watching too and I think it’s quite similar to that. Many students play the game too and I’ve had a number of conversations this week about Pokemon Go with my students. If you play the game, have fun but, like the warning screen says as the game loads, be aware of what’s around you and look where you’re going.
Are you playing Pokemon Go? Have you caught them all yet?
Thank you for reading. Have a great week.
Kevin
