leap year うるう年

Hello everyone,

How are you? I hope you’re having a great week. We’re in the middle of our spring campaign and we have seen lots of trial students. I taught 5 students aged 2 and 3 in a trial lesson yesterday. They all did really well for such a young age.

Every 4 years February has 29 days instead of 28. This is called a leap year. It happened this Monday. Leap means jump. You can imagine a number 29 jumping in big 4 year bounces. By tradition men usually propose to women, but on February 29th in a leap year, women who are tired of waiting for their men to propose can do it themselves. Sometimes the time needs even finer adjustment so there are leap seconds too. There was one last year. One day in June had an extra second added to it.

さて4年に1度、2月には29日ではなく28日しかない年がやってきます。うるう年ですね。今週の月曜日がそうでした。”leap”という単語は”ジャンプする”という意味です。イメージとしては4年の周期で29日がジャンプしているようなそんな感じがしますプロポーズは大抵、男性から女性にしますが、うるう年の29日は、プロポーズをされるのにずっと待たされた女性が男性に対してポロポーズ出来るという習わしがあります時間というものは時には細かな調整が必要なので、うるう秒というのもあります。昨年はこのうるう秒というものがあり、6月に1秒が追加されたようです。
