Do you have any plans for Silver week? Next week there is a three day string of consecutive holidays, from Monday to Wednesday. These days consist of Respect for the Aged Day, third Monday of September, Autumnal Equinox Day, usually September 23, and Kokumin no kyūjitsu, the day in between the two other holidays. I heard that the term “Silver week” is quite new and only became popular in 2009. As with other holiday weeks in Japan, travel is very popular at this time of the year and people need to be wary of heavy traffic on the highways. In Ireland there aren’t any consecutive days of public holidays, apart from Christmas. Public Holidays (such as St. Patrick’s Day) only last one day, so foreign travel isn’t as popular. People in Ireland usually take their holidays at any chosen time during the year, so there aren’t any particularly busy times for travelling.
The Rugby World Cup kicks off on Friday so I’ll try to watch some of it during Solver week. It’s going to be difficult to watch because it’s being held in England, so most of the games will take place at night or early in the morning. Ireland are playing against Canada on Saturday. I think we have a good chance of doing well this year, Ireland is currently ranked third in the World. Come on Ireland!
See you in two weeks,
Alan
