Yuruchara Grand Prix　ゆるキャラグランプリ

Hello everyone,
How was your Obon holidays? I hope you managed to relax and spend time with friends and family. I went to Omachi, in Nagano, and stayed with my in-laws a while. I had a nice time, and while I was there I met the town mascot, Omapyon (see the picture). Omapyon is a serrow (カモシカ), which are local Omachi wildlife. I’ve see a real one in Omachi a couple of times. I met Omapyon at a campaign rally for the Yuruchara Grand Prix 2015. This is an event which has suddenly got popular in Japan in the last few years. Local mascots and characters like Funashii and Kumamon have become very famous and popular, boosting tourism in their towns. 5 years ago there were 150 entrants for the first Yuruchara Grand Prix. Last year there were about 1800 entrants and this year there will be even more. You can vote via <a href=”http://www.yurugp.jp/index.php ” target=”_blank”>this link</a>. The local Fuji characters are taking part, too. Maybe there are too many local characters and mascots now. What do you think? Anyway, I’m voting for Omapyon. Will you vote?

Yesterday, we had to say goodbye to a first grader student. I’d taught him since he was 3 years old. His family is moving out of the prefecture so it was his last lesson. I really enjoyed teaching him and watch him grow up. I’ll miss him very much. He drew a picture of me as a goodbye present. I was very touched. Thank you. They still want to study the PLS system in their new town so they are going to travel 1 hour each way to the nearest sister school. People really like the PLS System. It’s a great curriculum and our school is the only one in Fuji that uses it.

みなさんこんにちは。

お盆休みはいかがでしたかご友人やご家族といい時間が過ごせましたでしょうか私は長野の大町に行き、義理の家族と過ごしました。そこでいい時間を過ごすことが出来ました。大町に滞在中、町のマスコット、オオマピョンに会いました。（上の写真がそうです）オオマピョンは大町に住む野生のカモシカがモチーフになっています。私も数回、野生のカモシカを大町で見たことがあります。今回、オオマピョンにはゆるキャラグランプリ2015のキャンペーンで会いました突然人気になったイベントですねゆるキャラグランプリを機にご当地キャラクターのフナッシーやくまもんなどが有名になり人気が出てきました。

5年前に行われた初めてのゆるキャラグランプリでは150の参加がありました。そして昨年は1800の参加、そして今年はさらに多くなると思います

そして昨日はある1年生の生徒さんにさよならを言わなくてはいけない日でした私は彼が3歳の時からずっと教えていました。ご家族の転勤に伴い、県外に引っ越しをすることになり、昨日が最後のレッスンとなりました。私自身、彼に英語を教える事、また成長するのを見ることがとても楽しかったですとても寂しいですが、彼が最後にさよならのプレゼントとして私の絵を描いてくれましたそれを見てととても感動しました。H君、ありがとう
