Yoshiwara Gion Festival 吉原祇園祭

Hello everyone,
Did you check out the Yoshiwara Gion Festival last weekend? It was great fun! There were giant floats called “dashi” dragged along the streets of Yoshiwara by locals. The dashi are beautifully decorated portable shrines, and people inside them play taiko drums and flutes. There are 21 of these, one from each section of the town, being dragged along the streets throughout the day. Many people were dressed in traditional Japanese attire, such as kimonos and yukatas. The sights and sounds were fantastic, it felt like a truly traditional Japanese event. The festival is over 300 years old and has its roots in the famous Kyoto Gion festival. The streets were lined with stalls selling all sorts of food, drink and souvenirs. I was happy to find a crushed ice stall, it`s a great way to cool off on such a hot day! It was quite tiring walking around in the heat and humidity of the rainy season, but I really enjoyed the festival and I`m looking forward to the next one.

みなさんは先週末に行われた吉原祇園祭にいきましたか
私は行ってきたのですが、とても楽しかったです

地元の人々がそれぞれの町の山車をひいて、一日中ねり歩いていました。
山車は綺麗に飾り付けられていて、中の人達が太鼓や笛を演奏していました
沢山の人達が着物や浴衣を身に着けていました。そんな光景や太鼓や笛の音が日本の伝統的なイベントなんだと感じさせませした
この吉原祇園祭は300年以上の歴史があり、京都の有名な祭り「京都祇園祭」にルーツがあるようです道には食べ物、飲み物、お土産など様々な種類の屋台が設置されていました。私はかき氷のお店を見つけとてもハッピーでした暑い日にクールダウンするのに最適です。雨季の蒸し暑い中歩き回り本当に疲れましたが、お祭りを楽しむことができました次の吉原祇園祭も楽しみにしています。
