Hello summer 夏が来た

Hello everyone,

It’s gotten very hot. It looks like summer is here! We’ve put fans in all of the rooms in Hario to keep everyone cool. The camp may be over but lots of other things are happening here at Hario. The next round of the Eiken test is in a couple of weeks. Students are busy making final preparations. Also in a couple of weeks we will hold open classes for parents.　And we have started our annual speech homework for PLS students. Students have written their Japanese drafts and will get unique, individual English speeches to learn and practice in a few months.

My Aunt, who lives in London, out of the blue (‘out of the blue’ means unexpectedly), sent me over some bunting. Bunting is flags on a string. So now my room is full of UK flags. I hope my students know that I’m from the UK, but just in case they forget, there are now lots of reminders of where I’m from in my room. Sachiyo told me she is jealous of the UK flag. It’s considered cool and seen on lots of Japanese people’s clothing. Sachiyo told me Japanese people call the Japanese flag ‘umeboshi‘ or plum because it looks like a red plum. I think the Japanese flag is cool. It reminds me of the rising sun.

みなさんこんにちは。

とても暑くなりましたね。もう夏が来たという感じですHarioではみなさんに涼しく勉強してもらえるように各教室に扇風機を出しました。

キャンプは終わってしまいましたが、Hario ではまだ様々なことが行われます。次回の英検がもうすぐまで迫ってきました。受験される生徒さん達はラストスパートで頑張っていますまた、ご父兄の為の授業参観もこのあと行われる予定となっています。そしてPLSの生徒さん達はマ年に1度あるスピーチホームワークが始まりました。現在は生徒の皆さんが作文を書いてきて提出してくれている所です。その作文が世界に一つしかないユニークな英語のスピーチとなり、数か月間に渡り練習する形になります

さて、ロンドンに住む私の叔母が”とつぜん”イギリスの国旗の飾りを送ってきてくれましたなので今、私の部屋はイギリス国旗でいっぱいとなっています。生徒の皆さんが私がイギリス出身だと知っていたら嬉しいのですが、もし忘れてしまっても今は部屋に沢山の”ヒント”があります。播本先生はイギリスの国旗が羨ましいと言っていました。”おしゃれ”として日本の人々の服にも良く見られます。
