Hello everyone,

How are you doing? You probably know that we had our English camp last weekend. You can read the blog posts from earlier this week and see photos on Facebook. Excuse me for writing again about the camp. It’ll be the last time (from me) for a while.

Last week I wrote about the chance of rain over the weekend. Sure enough, it rained a little on Saturday. However, it wasn’t enough to disrupt our plans and the students played the games enthusiastically nonetheless. I really liked the campsite at Asagiri. It’s a little far but the centre was big, well equipped and picturesque, and the staff were very helpful. Thank you to all those parents who drove to drop off your children. Last year, we weren’t able to have a campfire but this year we had a big campfire. We roasted marshmallows and sang songs. It was a lovely atmosphere. My group was in charge of making the campfire. We collected small sticks in the forest to help in light. They were wet so I was worried if it would catch light. Fortunately it did. Another new activity was a ‘Night Stamp Rally Bingo’. Students and teachers in small groups searched around the forest for bingo cards with English questions by torchlight. For me, it was very fun and a unique way to practice using English I think.

I had a really fun time at the camp. It seemed like the students and staff did too. I enjoyed spending time with students, especially students who I don’t teach, out of the classroom and using English. I think they could learn other things besides English. They could experience nature, learn how to cooperate and get along with others and to step out of their comfort zones and try new things. The biggest thing I’ll take away from the camp are fond memories. I’ll remember playing an animal card game with the students running around in the rain, care free. I’ll remember making the campfire and singing songs around it. I’ll remember eating the delicious curry the students made as the sun set. I’ll remember Grandfather Mario and his friends coming and a strange adventure to get back his turnip. Bowser was scary! I’ll remember looking for bingo clues in the forest at night by torchlight. I’ll remember exploring the camp. I’ll remember the funny happenings with the students.

みなさんこんにちは。

お元気ですか？もう皆さん既にキャンプでどんなことをしたかはご存知かと思います。まだという方は今週のブログやフェイスブックのHARIOのページをチェックしてみて下さい。私もキャンプについて書かせて頂きますがお許しください。

先週のブログで週末、雨が降る可能性があると書きました。思った通り土曜日に少しだけ降りましたが、プランを中断する程でもなく、生徒さん達は雨でもアクティビティを精一杯楽しみました。

私は今回のキャンプ地「朝霧野外活動センター」が非常に気に入りました。少し距離はありますが、施設は大きく、設備もしっかり整っており、景色も素晴らしい、そして職員の方々が非常に親切でした。

今回、現地までお子様を送り迎えして下さったご父兄の皆さん、ありがとうございました。

昨年はキャンプファイアーを行うことができませんでしたが、今年は大きなキャンプファイアーを行うことができました。その火を囲みながらマシュマロを炙って食べたり、歌を歌ったりしました。とっても素敵な雰囲気でした。わたしのグループはキャンプファイアーの担当でした。まず森から小さな木を拾ってきました。少し湿っていたので火がつくか心配でしたが、ちゃんと火をおこすことができました。

今年の新しいアクティビティとしては”ナイトスタンプラリービンゴ”を行いました。小さなグループに分かれ、懐中電灯を手に森に隠された英語の質問が書かれたカードを探しにいくというものです。私は楽しく英語を練習するのにユニークな方法だなと思いました。

 

今回のイングリッシュキャンプ、私は物凄く楽しむことができました。恐らく生徒さん達や他のスタッフもそうだと思います。私がクラスを教えていない生徒さん達とも教室外で英語を使い一緒に時間を過ごせた事はとても楽しかったです。多分、彼等は英語以外の事も沢山学んだのではないかと私は思います。自然を感じ、協力し合う事、普段の快適な暮らしから少し離れ、新しい事に挑戦する事等々。そして私がもっとも取り上げたい事は「思い出」です。私は雨の中、生徒さん達と一緒に走り回り、雨の中でゲームをしたこと、キャンファイアーをしながら一緒に歌を歌ったこと、みんなが作った美味しいカレーを一緒に食べたこと、マリオのおじいちゃんとその仲間達が登場し、カブを見つけるという奇妙な冒険をしたこと。クッパもいました。私は生徒さん達と一緒に過ごした楽しい時間を忘れないでしょう。
