The seasons are changing! Here in Fuji, the temperature has dropped very quickly in the last few days. Yesterday was especially cold compared to last week. At home, we put out the electric carpet and switched to thicker blankets. I even wore double sweaters, which I only ever wear in winter! As we switch from autumn to winter, it’s time to prepare for cold weather. I’ll take out my coats, hat, gloves and, of course, the kotatsu. I don’t think there is an English word for kotatsu, as I’ve only ever seen them in Japan. We lift off the top of our living room table, put the kotatsu blanket on, so it covers the legs, and then replace the table top. Now, when we sit at the table, we can be nice and cozy under the blanket. It’s bliss on a cold winter’s day. In fact, it might be a little too comfortable because I’ve fallen asleep in there so many times! I actually don’t get under the kotatsu very often. Our living room table is the low Japanese style table and we have low chairs without legs. When I sit with my legs out straight, they go to sleep, giving me “pins and needles”. This phrase means the feeling of pins sticking into your skin when the blood flow is restricted. I should pracitce stretching my legs more often and improving my flexibility so that I can truly appreciate the comfort of the kotatsu. For now, I’ll appreciate the last of the autumn weather.

皆さん、こんにちは、

季節が変わりつつあります！ここ富士は、ここ数日で一気に気温が下がりましたね　特に昨日は先週に比べて寒かった

家では電気カーペットを出し、厚手の毛布に切り替えました。冬にしか着ないセーターをダブルで着たりもしました

秋から冬に切り替わると、寒さに備える時期になります。コート、帽子、手袋、もちろんコタツを出します。

こたつは日本でしか見たことがないので、こたつという英語はないんじゃないかなぁ～。

リビングルームのテーブルの天板を持ち上げ、こたつ毛布をかけて脚を覆い、テーブルの天板を取り替えます。

これで、テーブルに座ったとき、毛布の下でぬくぬくできるんですよ。

寒い冬の日の至福のひとときです。実際、何度もそこで眠ってしまったことがあり、

私はちょっとぬくぬくしすぎるかもしれないな！

実は最近、私はこたつに入ることはあまりないです。我が家のリビングのテーブルは和風の低いテーブルで、

椅子は脚のない低いものです。脚をまっすぐ伸ばして座ると、脚がしびれてしまって「ピンと張る」んです。

血流が滞っているときに、肌にピンが刺さるような感覚です。

こたつの心地よさを実感するためにも、

もっと脚を伸ばす練習をして、運動した方がいいのかな。

とにかく今は、秋の気配を楽しむとしよう。
