Why is it so green in here?

Hello everyone,

Next week, March 17th, is St. Patrick`s Day, and we`ll be celebrating it all week here at Hario! You can already see a sea of green clovers called shamrocks all over Hario. Why is there so much green? It`s the national colour of Ireland, symbolising nature and the green landscape of the country. Once you go outside of Dublin city, you can see green fields from pretty much anywhere you go. Dublin is a big city of over 1,000,000 people but the other cities in Ireland are quite small. The second biggest city is about the size of Fuji City! If you take a trip around Ireland, it feels very rural wherever you go. All of Ireland`s sports teams wear green and the country`s nickname is “the Emerald Isle”. It`s the first colour that comes to mind whenever anyone mentions Ireland. There is even a Japanese reference to emerald green in my daughter`s name. There is a superstition that it`s lucky to wear something green on St. Patrick`s day. If you aren`t wearing any, people will pinch you, so don`t forget! This holiday`s obsession with green extends around the world. I saw a big sea of people in green at the St. Patrick`s Day parade in Harajuku a few years ago. In Chicago, USA, they dye the river in the city green for the day. That takes a lot of effort, and a lot of coloured dye!

So that`s why it looks so green in Hario. Happy St. Paddies Day!

来週の3月17日はセント・パトリックス・デーです。

ハリオでは来週一週間、このお祝いをしますよ！

すでにハリオのあちこちに「シャムロック」と呼ばれる緑のクローバーが広がっています。

どうしてこんなに緑が多いのでしょうか

それは、アイルランドの国の色であり、自然や美しい緑の景色を象徴しているからです。ダブリンの街を一歩出ると、どこへ行っても緑の野原が広がっています。

ダブリンは人口100万人を超える大都市ですが、アイルランドの他の都市はとても小さく、2番目に大きい都市でも富士市と同じくらいの規模なんです。アイルランドを旅すると、どこへ行っても田園風景が広がっているように感じます。アイルランドのスポーツチームはすべて緑のユニフォームを着ていて、国の愛称は「エメラルドの島」。アイルランドと聞いてまず思い浮かぶ色が緑なのです。実は、私の娘の名前にもエメラルドグリーンにちなんだ日本語の要素が入っています
