Festivals and fireworks お祭りと花火大会

Hello everyone,

This week at Hario we have been deciding on which songs our 10th rank and kindergarten students will be performing at the speech contest this year. Every year they sing and dance to some popular songs and it`s always one of the highlights of the speech contest. In past years we`ve had such old favorites as “YMCA” and “The Locomotion”. Want to make any guesses as to what we have in store this year? All will be revealed soon!

Did you visit the Fuji Matsuri last Sunday? Being a new Father, I didn`t get a chance to go, but I heard the fireworks from my house in the evening. In Japan almost every city has a festival with fireworks in the summer. In Ireland there are no festivals specific to each town or city, but we have festivals such as music, comedy, or performance arts around the country. However, there is only one day of the year when you will see fireworks, and that`s Halloween, October 31st. Fireworks are actually illegal in Ireland, but before Halloween they are sold on the streets and the police usually turn a blind eye to it. During Halloween night people hold bonfires and set off fireworks. They aren`t professionals though, so it isn`t as pretty as a Japanese matsuri.

HARIO では今週、今年のスピーチコンテストでの幼稚園と10級の生徒さんたちによる歌について、何がよいか話し合っています。毎年、生徒さんたちには歌とダンスを披露してもらうのですが、これもスピーチコンテストの見どころのひとつとなっています。過去のスピーチコンテストでは、古くから親しまれている「YMCA」や「ロコモーション」を披露しました。今年の曲は何になるでしょうか？？もうすぐ発表です

日曜日は富士まつりに行きましたか？私はお父さんになったばかりなので行けませんでしたが、夜には家から花火の音が聞こえてきました。日本では夏はほとんどすべての都市でお祭りや花火大会があります。アイルランドではそれぞれの地域の祭りがあるということはないのですが、音楽やコメディ、美術のお祭りなどが国のあちこちであります。花火を見る機会は年に一度、10月31日のハロウィンの日だけです。花火は実はアイルランドで違法なのです。しかしハロウィンがちかづくと、売られるようになり、警察はそれに対しては目をつぶってくれます。ハロウィンの夜、人々は火を焚いて花火を打ち上げます。プロではないので、日本のお祭りの花火ほどきれいではないですが。
