When should you put up a Christmas Tree?

Hello everyone,

It’s almost mid-November already! It’s getting cooler every day and feels cold at night now. I have already switched to double blankets in bed. Do you put up a Christmas tree at home? If so, when is the best time to put it up? This is the subject of some debate every year. Many people believe it should go up at the start of December. However, Christmas decorations appear in shops right after Halloween. So we see Christmas trees, decorations and lights all over the city from early November. Shops want us to get into the Christmas spirit early so that we start doing more shopping for the festive season. Another reason for decorating early is that some people invest so much money in their Christmas lights and decorations, they want to put them on display for as long as possible. I think people are decorating a little earlier every year. When I was young I didn’t see anything until the beginning of December. Recently I have noticed decorations appear in both Ireland and Japan right after Halloween. A got a surprise at home at the start of this month when I found our Christmas tree put up by my wife and daughter. Sure it’s early, but it’s so pretty that it deserves to be up for more than just one month. So it feels Christmassy already at home. I’m looking forward to the festive season, even though it’s quite far away at the moment!

もう気づけば１１月も中旬です。日に日に寒くなり、夜は冷えますね。私はすでに毛布を二枚かけています。

ところで皆さんは家にクリスマスツリーを飾りますか。

もしそうであれば、いつ飾りますか。毎年この話題になります。

多くの答えは、１２月初めではないでしょうか。でも町や店などを見ると、ハロウィンの後すぐにクリスマスのデコレーションになっていますよね。なので１１月初めごろには、私達はクリスマスのデコレーションを目にします。多分、お店側も少しでも早く、お客さんをクリスマスモードにさせて、買い物を促せたいのでしょう。もう一つ、クリスマスのデコレーションが早く行われる理由には、クリスマスのライトやデコレーションに多くのお金を使っている人々がいることです。彼らとしては、できるだけ長く飾っていたいですから。毎年、クリスマスデコレーションが始まるが早くなっているような気がします。私が小さい時、１２月のはじめまでは、クリスマスデコレーションを目にすることはありませんでしたが、最近ではアイルランドでも日本でもハロウィンの後に見るようになりました。私の妻と娘がクリスマスツリーを今月のはじめに飾っているのを見て、私はびっくりしました。早いと思いますが、ツリーが綺麗なので、１カ月以上飾っていいじゃないかと、思いました。ということで、家はクリスマスモードですが、来月のクリスマスを楽しみにしています。
