Hello everyone,

Happy New Year! I hope you had a nice holiday and are looking forward to a hopeful 2021. How did you ring in the New Year? I watched Kohaku at home with my family here in Fuji. That seems to be the most common way to countdown to midnight on New Year’s Eve. We had “toshi koshi” soba, made by my father-in-law. He often makes soba in our garage. It’s one of his hobbies, and it’s very delicious! We also had sushi for dinner. I went to the sushi restaurant near Shizutetsu to collect it. The whole restaurant had been changed to a take-out only service. So many people order sushi on New Year’s Eve, they are very busy getting the orders ready. They were very efficient and we got our sushi in just a few minutes. I also tried “oozoni”, which is mochi in soup, and it tastes amazing!

So now we are all well rested and ready to get back in to a new year of teaching! What are your hopes for the year? First of all, I want the world to get back to normal once we can get rid of corona virus. Vaccines have begun in some countries, and Japan will come soon. I hope this can stop the spread, and we can get on with our lives again. I’m looking forward to seeing my student’s smiling faces again. We have been wearing masks for so long now, I think their faces have changed as they have grown up. At Hario, we take safety very seriously, so masks, and cleaning are very important to stay safe until we get back to normal. When the vaccines arrive, I wonder how long it will take to curb the spread of the virus. Will the Tokyo Olympics take place? It seems like an impossibility now, but we’ll wait and see. I also hope that our students’ school life isn’t affected this year. In Ireland, schools have closed until February. After the 6 month closure last year, students are worried about their school life. So those are my hopes for the year of the Ox. I hope you all have a wonderful year.

みなさん、こんにちは。アランです。

あけましておめでとうございます。年末年始はいかがでしたか。いい年明けができましたか

私は富士で家族と一緒に紅白歌合戦をみて年を越しました。日本ではこれが一般的な年明けの過ごし方なのかなと思います。

そして義理の父の作った年越しそばを食べました。父はいつも車庫でそば打ちをしています。これが彼の趣味の一つで、彼の打つそばはとても美味しいですまたお寿司やお雑煮も食べました。

そして年が明け、授業がスタートしました。皆さんの今年の願いはなんですか。まずは、この世界からコロナがなくなること。ワクチンの接種が始まった国々もあり、日本もまもなくですね。このワクチンが感染拡大の歯止めとなり、早くもとの生活を取り戻したいです。そして生徒達の笑った顔を私はみたいです。もう一年以上もマスクでみていませんから。きっと彼らの顔も成長して変わっているのかもしれません。HARIOでは感染防止対策を徹底していますが、今後もマスクや手洗い、消毒を徹底していきます。ワクチン接種が収まっていくのでしょうか。東京オリンピックは開催されるのでしょうか。今のところ、開催が難しそうな気もしますが、待つしかありませんね。また学校などが休校にならないこともねがっています。これらが私の２０２１年の願いです。皆さん、よいお年を！
