What a great Hario Camp!

Hello everyone,

Hario Camp 2018 took place last weekend and I’m happy to tell you it was a great success! Last week the weather forecast was for rain on Saturday, but thankfully on the day not a drop of rain fell. We all got to enjoy the great outdoors in fine weather. We arrived at Asagiri Kogen on Saturday morning and I was excited to set up our camp equipment and get started. Our students arrived and were so happy to see Kevin again. It’s been 5 months since they said goodbye to him, so it was a joyful reunion with the students and their parents. We began the camp with some games. We had an interview activity so that the students could get to know each other. Many of them are in separate classes so they don’t know their camping group. This was a great way to learn more about each other, break the ice and make new friends. After that we went to the big field. This place has become a Hario Camp favorite because it has a large hill that students love to run up and down. We played “duck, duck, goose” in the field and then set off on a scavenger hunt. The students set off in their groups to explore the nature in the campsite. They also kept and eye out for some Super Mario characters hiding around the place. This is what camping is all about. Getting out of the city and exploring the wilderness. We found plants, flowers and insects on the scavenger hunt, while having and nice hike around the area. We got ready for dinner with a game to set up our groups cooking items. We began cooking at about 4:30. It takes time to get the fire going when cooking with wood. Each group had a different cooking task. We made curry, stew, keema curry, rice and salad. It was delicious! All of the games and walking around gave us a big appetite, so most of us went back for seconds. Luckily there was plenty to go around. We finished off the evening with “night rally bingo”, which was great fun! Then we sang songs around the campfire and roasted marshmallows. Everyone finally got to sleep around 10PM. But I think some students stayed up in their tents talking the night away. The next morning we were up bright and early at 6AM. After a delicious breakfast of toast, sausages and scrambled eggs, we played the famous annual “wide game”. This year, Super Mario characters joined us to help find Hario’s key, which was stolen by Bowser and Wario. The students were delighted to play with their favorite characters, and chased by the enemies! Luckily we found Hario’s key, so we could open up again on Monday.

After all the fun, everyone was exhausted. I think most of our students fell asleep on their journey home. They left camp with a smile, new friends and fantastic memories. Thanks for coming and making us happy. And also a big thinks to our helpers, and it was great to see Kevin again. See you next year!

みなさんこんにちは。

ＨＡＲＩＯキャンプ2018が先週末行われ、大成功であったことを嬉しく思います！

先週は天気予報では日曜日が雨でしたが、ありがたいことにその日は一滴の雨も降りませんでした。私達はみんな晴天の元すばらしい屋外を楽しみました。土曜日の朝に朝霧高原に到着し、キャンプの設営をし、始まる準備をしてわくわくしました。

生徒達が到着し、ケビンに再会してとても喜んでいました。お別れをしてから5ヶ月が経ちました。そのため生徒達や、保護者の方々との嬉しい再会でした。

わたしたちはキャンプの初めにいくつかゲームをしました。生徒達がお互いのことを良く知るためにインタビューゲームをしました。

多くの生徒たちは普段は違うクラスなので、キャンプの同じグループのお友達のことを知りません。このゲームはお互いのことをもっと知り、打ち解け、新しい友達を作る最適な方法でした。

その後大きなフィールドへ行きました。この場所はＨＡＲＩＯキャンプのお気に入りの場所となりました。なぜなら生徒達が大喜びで駆け上ったり下ったりできる大きな丘があるからです。わたしたちは「ダック・ダック・グース」というゲームをそのフィールドでやりました。それからスカベンジャーハント。生徒たちはグループごとにキャンプサイトの中で自然探検に出発しました。また、みんなあちこちに隠れているマリオキャラクターも一緒に見つけていました。これがキャンプの醍醐味です。町から離れ、自然を探検すること。私達は植物や花、虫などをスカベンジャーハントで見つけ、同時にエリア周辺を気持ちよくハイキングしました。

４：３０～はクッキングの準備を開始しました。各チームが異なる料理を担当しました。

カレー、シチュー、キーマカレー、ライス、サラダを作りました。とても美味しかったです！

たくさんゲームをし、歩いたのですごくお腹がすきました。だからほとんどの人がおかわりをしました。ラッキーなことにおかわりをするのに十分な量がありました。

夕方は「ナイトラリービンゴ」をして過ごしました。とっても楽しかったです！

そしてキャンプファイアーを囲んで歌を歌い、マシュマロを焼きました。全員最終的に10時頃に眠りにつきました。しかし生徒の中には遅くまでテントで話していた人もいたでしょう。

翌朝明るい早朝6時に起床しました。トースト、ソーセージ、スクランブルエッグなど美味しい朝食の後、有名な毎年恒例の「お楽しみゲーム」をやりました。今年はスーパーマリオのキャラクターが参加してクッパとワリオに盗まれたＨＡＲＩＯの鍵を見つけるのを手伝ってくれました。生徒たちは好きなキャラクターたちとあそび、敵に追いかけられて嬉しそうでした！幸運にも私達はＨＡＲＩＯの鍵をみつけることができました。だからまた月曜日に開校することができました。
