Hello everyone,

 Hario has now been back open a week after the Obon holidays. I hope you did something fun and could relax. I spent the week in Nagano with my in-laws. It’s a little cooler there and I was surrounded by the Japanese Alps. I had a nice week. We’re still having special grammar and conversation classes until the end of the month when the school holidays finish. The speech homework is progressing and it’s nice to see the students improve week by week. We’re also practicing some songs our youngest students will perform at the speech contest. It’s early days but they are picking up the lyrics fast.

 

みなさん、こんにちは。

お盆休みが明けてから一週間がたちました。

みなさん、よいお盆休みを過ごしましたか。

私は妻の実家の長野県で一週間を過ごしました。こちらより少し涼しく、私は日本アルプスに囲まれた中にいました。

休みがあけて、夏期講習の後半戦がスタート。スピーチホームワークも進んでいます。毎週、生徒の皆さんの上達をみるのが楽しみです。また幼児クラス＆PLS１０級、９級クラスでは、スピーチコンテストで披露する予定の歌の練習が始まりました。また始まったばかりですが、生徒たちは歌詞を口ずむようになりました。

 

 

 Last Sunday was the Fuji City Swimming Championships. Like I said last week, I decided to enter. Anyone can enter and I’m not a serious swimmer. I came last in my event in my age group, the breaststroke. I’ve never raced before or set an official time so it’s still a personal best! Just kidding. Anyway, it was fun and an interesting experience. Even though the result didn’t matter to me, being in a race in front of a crowd starts your adrenalin and makes you nervous. The human brain is intersting like that. I saw a number of students and their parents at the event. Unlike me, they are serious swimmers and clearly practiced hard. They did a really good job. Well done! Also, thank you to the parents who said they cheered me on.

先週の土曜日は、富士市で行われた水泳大会に出場しました。だれでも参加できる大会です。私は、同年代のグループの平泳ぎで最下位の結果でした。これまでにレースというものには出たことはないので、今回の記録が自己ベストということになります(笑)とにかく、楽しくていい経験になりました。結果はおいておいて、人の前でレースとなると人間はアドレナリンがでて、緊張します。人間の脳というのは面白いですね。大会では、たくさんのHARIOの生徒達や保護者の方に会いました。皆さんは私と違って、真剣に練習を続けている選手たちです。みな、健闘したレースをしていました。よく頑張りましたね。

そして私を応援してっくれた生徒や保護者の皆さん、ありがとうございました。
