There’s a grand stretch in the evenings!

Hello everyone,

“There’s a grand stretch in the evenings!” That’s what we say in Ireland when we notice the evenings are becoming brighter. As we approach summer the days are getting longer, and we can enjoy warmer weather outside. Some people had small hanami picnics under the cherry blossom recently. They couldn’t have large gatherings of course. I miss the sakura festival at our local park that used to be held every April. It was a great way to celebrate spring in the warm weather surrounded by beautiful pink trees. Hopefully, when everything gets back to normal, we can have festivals again. They are a great part of Japanese culture and I miss going to them every year. Japan needs to speed up the vaccines and get everyone immunised as soon as possible. The cherry blossom bloomed so early this year it’s almost all gone now. It bloomed the earliest in over 1,000 years in some parts of Japan. Some people say it’s global warming. What do you think? Let’s see if next year has the same early spring.

I celebrate many birthdays at this time of the year. Recently, we had Yumi’s birthday at the end of March, and it was Sachiyo’s birthday last Sunday. My wife, my mother and I also all have birthdays in April. In fact, today is the last day of my thirties. I will turn 40 tomorrow, which sounds older than I feel. I hope to stay young at heart. I even got a game for my birthday present, which I have been getting since I was a child. Some things never change! Enjoy the spring.

これは、アイルランドで人々が、夜が明るくなっていることに気付いたときに言うセリフです。

夏が近づくにつれ、日が長くなり、外は暖かく過ごせます。桜の下で小さな花見ピクニックしていた人もいました。

もちろん今は大人数では集まれませんが。毎年4月に開催されていた地元の公園での桜まつりが恋しいです。

美しいピンクの木々に囲まれた暖かい季節に春を祝うのに最高でした。

コロナが終息した時にはまたお祭りで祝うことができます。日本はワクチン接種を速め、できるだけ早く全員に予防接種をする必要があります。今年は桜が早めに咲いたので、今はほとんど散ってしまいました。一部の地域では、1、000年の中で最も早く開花したそうです。これは地球温暖化だと言う人もいます。どう思いますか？来年はどの時期に咲くか、観察しましょう。

ところで、私はこの時期に多くの誕生日を祝います。先日の3月末には、スタッフのユウミの誕生日があり、先週の日曜日はサチヨの誕生日でした。妻、母、そして私も4月に誕生日を迎えます。実際、今日は私の30代の最後の日です。明日は40歳になりますが、聞こえは思ったより年上に感じます。心の若さを保ちたいです。
