Thanks for a Great Speech Contest!

English Diary

Hello everyone,

Did you have time off for the holiday last Thursday? Did you come to our Speech Contest? It was a great success, and everyone had a fantastic time! I really think the quality of our students’ speeches goes up every year. This is especially true in the highest rank category. The 4th rank and up category is made up of many speech contest veterans, who know what it takes to win a prize. It becomes very competitive, especially for the 6th graders, as it’s their final contest. They worked so hard in the months coming up to the contest, I wish they could all get a first place trophy! But of course, we must pick only one winner of the first prize in each category. So congratulations to our prize winners, and well done to all of you for taking part. Getting a place at the contest shows that you have a special talent for speaking English. Even if you don’t go to the contest, all of the speeches have impressed me this year, and good luck in making it next year. Well done also to our 10th rank students who performed the songs on stage. They sang nice and loud for everyone to hear. They wore cool costumes and put on more accessories for the songs. Did you spot any Freddie Mercury moustaches during the Queen song? Kevin gave an emotional farewell speech to mark his leaving at the end of the year. He will be missed by us all. We welcomed our newest staff members and introduced Mike, Hiromi and Nao to our audience. I had an awesome time and hope everyone enjoyed the show.

Last Thursday was Labour Thanksgiving Day here in Japan, and Thanksgiving in the U.S.A. The next day is called Black Friday in America, where stores have big sales to mark the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. I have seen videos of crowds of people running into stores upon opening and fighting over discount goods! People will do anything for a good bargain. The Black Friday tradition has made its way to Japan too. There were sales in stores around here over the weekend, but thankfully no dramatic customers running around like in the U.S.A.

Thanks for reading.
