Hello everyone,

Did you enjoy the long weekend? There were two Monday holidays in a row these past two weeks. Last week, on the 17th, it was Old People’s Day. This holiday was originally celebrated on September 15th, but was changed to the third Monday of September due to the “Happy Mondays” system that was introduced by the Japanese government. This system started in 2000 and they moved several public holidays to Monday, so that workers can enjoy a long weekend. I think it’s a good idea because many people live and work away from their hometown, in bigger cities. This gives them the chance to travel back and spend time with their families. That’s what my wife’s brother and sister did last weekend. They live in Yokohama, and came to stay with us last weekend and play with their niece. If the holiday was in the middle of the week, they wouldn’t have the time to come over. Sunday was the Autumnal Equinox, which is the day that is exactly between the longest and shortest days of the year. So, in theory, there are about 12 hours of light and darkness. This holiday is not part of the “Happy Mondays” system, but it fell on Sunday this year, so the public holiday took place on Monday.

I had a good break last week. I spent lot of my time looking after my daughter and taking her to kindergarten. Last Sunday was her sport’s day. It was so hot and sunny that morning, so I hid from the sun in the shade. My daughter had fun and ran in a race with her classmates, sang and danced to an anpanman song, and ran a race with her mother too. Every year the students do more and more events and I look forward to seeing her compete in the relay in her final kindergarten year. It’s only her first year now, so that’s still two year away!

みなさんこんにちは。

長い週末を楽しめましたかここ二週間のうちに続けて２回の月曜祝日がありました先週の１７日は敬老の日でした。

この祝日はもともと９月１５日に祝われていましたが、９月の第三月曜日に変更されました。

というのも日本政府によって「ハッピーマンデー」制度が導入されたからです。

この制度は２０００年に始まり、政府はいくつかの祝日を月曜日に変更しました。そのため労働者たちは長い週末を楽しむ事が出来るのです。

これは良い考えだと私は思います

なぜなら多くの人が故郷を離れ大きな街で生活し、働いています。

この制度のおかげで帰省し、家族と共に過ごすことができます

それは私の妻の兄妹が先週行ったことでもあります。

彼らは横浜に住んでおり、先週、彼らの娘をつれて遊びにやって来ました

もし祝日が週の真ん中であったら彼らはこちらに来る時間はなかったでしょう。

日曜日は秋分の日でした秋分の日はちょうど一年で最も長い日と短い日の間にあたります。

ですから理論上は、昼と夜の時間が約１２時間ずつになります。

この祝日は「ハッピーマンデー」制度には含まれませんが、今年はそれが日曜日にあたったので、国民の祝日は月曜日に行われました。

 

私は先週良い休日を過ごしましたたくさんの時間を娘の世話をして過ごし、幼稚園へつれて行きました。

先週の日曜日は運動会でしたその日の朝はとても暑く、晴れていました。そのため私は日陰で太陽から隠れていました。

娘は競争でクラスメートたちと走り、歌い、アンパンマンの歌で踊り、そしてお母さんとも競争で走り、楽しんでしました。

毎年、園児たちはよりたくさんの種目を行います。私は娘の最後の幼稚園の年にリレーで娘が競うのを見るのが楽しみです

今彼女は、年少ですから、まだ２年も先のことです！
