Hello everyone,

It’s almost here! The Hario Christmas Party 2019 takes place this Sunday. Come join us for lots of fun, games, crafts, songs and, of course, Santa. He is checking his list of the Hario students this year to see if they have been naughty or nice. If you have been a good kid this year you might get a present, so remember to be nice to everyone, especially your Hario teachers! I have the connections, as I’ve been speaking to Santa recently. He knows who has been good this year.

Apart from living in the North Pole and giving presents on Christmas Day, what do you know about Santa Claus? His name goes back to the 4th century, when a bishop named Saint Nicholas would give gifts to people in December. The name changed over time to Santa Claus. He was actually called Father Christmas in 16th century England and wore green! He eventually started wearing the well-known red clothes and hat in the 19th century. This picture from 1881 showed a more modern day looking Santa. This look was made popular in coca-cola advertisements. There are many Christmas songs about Santa, how many do you know?

There are only about 2 weeks to Christmas so I hope you enjoy the celebrations. If you can find turkey in Japan, give it a try. Otherwise enjoy some KFC.

みなさん、こんにちは。

もうすぐHARIOのクリスマスパーティです。楽しいゲームやクラフト、歌、そしてサンタさんに会えるクリスマス会。

サンタさんは今、子供達が一年間よい子だったかどうか、チェックをしています。もしよい子だったら、サンタさんからプレゼントがもらえるかもしれません。ですから、みんなに優しくしましょうね。とくにハリオの先生の前ではよいこでいましょうね笑。私はサンタさんと知り合いなので、よく話をします。だからサンタさんは、皆が一年どんな子だったのか知っているのでう。

サンタさんが北極に住んでいて、クリスマスにはプレゼントをくれる以外に、みなさんはサンタのことを知っていますか。彼の名前は４世紀から始まったといわれています。聖闘士ニコラスというローマ法王が１２月に人々にプレゼントをあげていたことに由来します。そこから名前が変化してサンタクロースになりました。１６世紀にはファーザークリスマスとよばれ、緑色の服をきていました。そこから今の赤の服と帽子になったのは１９世紀ごろ。上の写真は１８８１年のサンタの写真です。この写真はコカ・コーラのCMで有名になりました。そしてサンタにまつわる沢山のクリスマスの歌もありますね。みなさんはいくつ知っていますか。
